Seemingly out of nowhere Bad Robot and Paramount Pictures released 10 Cloverfield Lane, a tangentially related film to Cloverfield (2008) from J.J. Abrams and director Dan Trachtenberg. The sci-fi / thriller hybrid features a tour-de-force performance from its cast, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr., and a tense Hitchcockian approach to the conflicts between the main characters locked in a bunker as the world above experiences an unknown calamity.
