Join us this week as we revisit The Entity (1982) from director Sidney J. Furie and writer Frank De Felitta adapting the true tale of Carla Moran who was convinced she was being haunted and abused by a violent, unseen spirit. A shocker in its day, the film lives up to the hype providing scares, thrills and shocking horror. Sure, the ending is bent, but getting there is impressive.

"A Story So Shocking, So Threatening, It Will Frighten You Beyond All Imagination. The ultimate story of supernatural terror! "

The Black Saint (Decades of Horror: 1970s podcast) steps into the Eighties with Doc Rotten and very special guest host, award winning director Christopher G. Moore (Foodie, Disengaged) to discuss the disturbing and controversial film The Entity. Charles Berstein is recognized for his imposing, frightening score and Barbara Hershey delivers an Oscar-worthy performance.

The Entity is an often overlooked haunted house picture due to a combination of its own subject matter and the arrival of the mega-hit juggernaut, Poltergeist. But this film deserves to be remembered and re-watched. Even after 30 years, the effects and the story remain terrifying and unbelievable. The directions, the cinematography and the acting is above par. But, damn, that ending nearly destroys everything. Check out The Black Saint, Christopher G. Moore and Doc Rotten's discussion on this highly volatile film.

Tusk (2014) is Kevin's Smith's second horror comedy with the script germinating from the SModcast podcast: episode 259 The Walrus and The Carpenter. The film may be a bit uneven and controversial but the performance by Michael Parks as Howard Howe has a number of the grue-crew saying he should be considered for an Academy Award...but realize, sadly, it never will.

Dave shares the horror news of the week with news of Universal hiring Noah Hawley (Fargo) to script a Classic Monster flick and Camille Keaton returns for a sequel to I Spit On Your Grave. Doc, Thomas and Santos have all seen The Maze Runner...and they like it. What?

Co-hosts Doc RottenSantos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr., Dave Dreher, Thomas Mariani and Vixen, the voice of reason, are back again this week to give you the best in horror as they recap, review and obliterate all that is horror this week!  This week we announce that it is time to enter for a chance to win Lionsgate Home Entertainments's Hannibal Season 2 DVD giveaway prize pack.

Tusk (2014)
Kevin Smith turns a dare on his popular podcast into a full length feature, Tusk. The film stars Justin Long, Michael Parks, Genesis Rodriguez and Haley Joel Osment where Parks' Howard Howe eyes Justin Long's Wallace Bryton for his horrifying experiments in turning a man into a walrus, a new Mr. Tusk. The reviews are mixed among the grue-crew, Santos loves the films while Vixen shares she was prepared to walk out of the theater. It's a lively conversation with a personal call to action for Kevin Smith from Thomas.

What Have You Been Watching: The Maze Runner
Yes, The Maze Runner is an adaptation of a Young Adult novel, but it is well done, thrilling and features creepy creature effects with the Grievers. Doc Rotten, The Black Saint and Thomas Mariani each saw the film over the weekend and recap the highlights of the film, including some crafty eyebrow acting. Woot!

Horror News of the Week for 09/22/2014
Dave begins the Horror News of the Week with the announcement that Noah Hawley from the Fargo TV series has been hired to write the next film for the revamped Universal Monsters film series. Which monster he is writing has not yet been revealed. It appears that infamous director Ed Woods was also a writer of prose...and his 32 stories have been collected into a single volume. Camille Keaton returns for a sequel to I Spit On Your Grave. Hulu lands J.J. Abrams adaptation of Stephen King's 11/22/63. And Spirit stores spread Halloween cheer to children.

"She Lives. Don't Move. Don't Breathe. She Will Find You." The tag line promises Prophecy (1979) to be the next big "Monster Movie" with director John Frankenheimer behind the camera and David (The Omen) Selzer behind the pen. The film never lives up to that lofty goal but gives it everything it has. The film stars Robert Foxworth, Talia Shire, Armand Assante and Richard Dysart. The Black Saint and Doc Rotten tackle another groovy horror film from the 1970s.

Decades of Horror 1970s
Episode 5 – Prophecy (1979)

Joining The Black Saint and Doc Rotten once again is North Carolina film maker, Bill Mulligan, who lends his thespian, effects making, screen writing talents to the duo's take on Prophecy. The biggest problem with the film is the mutant bear itself, awkward and a little goofy, it draws more laughs that screams. Isely (Richard Dysart) describes the Katahdin monster was "larger than a dragon with the eyes of a cat" but it is often called the salami bear. Stephen King is known to have referenced the film as one of his favorites, Doc Rotten, The Black Saint and Bill Mulligan re-examine the film to roaring delight and cheep 70s thrills.

This week's main release is the slow-burn horror film from director Leigh Jeniak starring Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones) and Harry Treadaway (Penny Dreadful). Some of the film works, some of it does not. The last 15 minutes of the movie are mind bending WTF, then the ending happens.

What Have You Been Watching: Z-Nation
Doc hears an earful from the grue-crew for insisting that they all watch the premiere episode of SyFy's Z-Nation. All but Doc and Dave tear into the show calling it disposable and terrible. Thomas does confess, however, his did enjoy the zombie baby. Citizen Z, however, not so much.

Horror News of the Week for 09/15/2014
An interrupted internet connections prevents Dave Dreher from doing the news this week, so Thomas steps in to share the Horror News of the Week beginning with news of the remake of The Town that Dreaded Sundown from Orion. That's right, Orion has returned! Better remakes news is the announcement that Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard are tackling I Saw the Devil. Still more remake news with information about the second stab at I Saw What You Did Last Summer. Blumhouse (Jason Blum), Tony Krantz (NBCs Dracula), Endemol Studios (Hell on Wheels) and Radio Silence are set to create a horror/sci-fi anthology 10 episode series for NBC. And if Tusk is not strange enough for you, it also becomes the first film to officially have a medical marijuana tie in.

Join us this week as we revisit An American Werewolf in London from director John Landis and effects artist, Academy Award winner, Rick Baker. One of two phenomenal, influential werewolf films of 1981, An American Werewolf in London goes on to win the first Academy Award for Best Make-Up and forever connect the lyrics to Blue Moon to werewolves.

"The undead surround me. Have you ever talked to a corpse? It's boring! I'm lonely! Kill yourself, David, before you kill others." - Jack's corpse to David.

Thomas Mariani returns once again to join Doc Rotten in celebrating classic monster movies from the past. An American Werewolf in London is a classic, a must see horror film and one of top examples of horror comedies of all time. Director John Landis is on top of his game with a script he honed for 10 plus years bringing a perfect blend of genres, pacing and timing. Then there is the special effects, the full body transformation of David into the werewolf, brightly lite, all practical and riveting. The film also ties in brilliant use of music, Blue Moon, Bad Moon Rising and Moondance. Despite the music and the laughs, the film is also scary with vicious attacks on the moors and in the London tubes.

With episode 8, The Strain starts building Abraham's army as Eph, Nora, Jim and Abraham join forces with Vasiliy Fet and Dutch. Tonight's show is tight keeping most of the action centered around a convenience store where our cast is trapped by a swarm of strigoi. All that and more on this week's episode...

The Strain finally gives us an hour of Vasiliy Fet, our favorite exterminator. Creatures of the Night is highlighted by a sensational cameo from Rick Baker in all his ponytail glory. This episode also puts a final resolution to Jim's story-line with a shocking decision from Mr. Fet.  Doc and Dave have lots to discuss as the recap episode 8 of The Strain.
