"If this one doesn't scare you, you're already dead" - the tagline for the Don Coscarelli cult classic Phantasm (1979) foreshadows an experience not to be forgotten. And, it delivers. There is nothing like Phantasm with its nightmare narrative, the Tall Man and those deadly flying spheres. The Black Saint and Doc Rotten tackle another groovy horror film from the 1970s.

Decades of Horror 1970s
Episode 29 – Phantasm (1979)

Thomas Mariani, co-managing editor of OneofUs.net and co-host of Horror News Radio, joins The Black Saint and Doc Rotten to discuss a bonafide classic of horror movies, Seventies or otherwise,  Phantasm. In recent months the film is set to get a 4K makeover with a release shepherded by J.J. Abrams and another sequel called Phantasm Ravager. And with the passing of the film's Tall Man, Angus Scrimm (Lawrence Rory Guy), Decade of Horror is revisiting Phantasm with bitter sweet joy and a heavy heart. After all these years, the film holds up tremendously well, even if some of its tricks are beginning to show their low-budget origins. Check out that marble wall paper and glimpses of the rope used to help Angus pick up the coffin. Still the Tall Man will haunt your dreams and the flying spheres will make you piss your pants.

This week on Horror News Radio we try to follow Brahms' rules as we babysit The Boy. Lauren Cohan steps out of the dangerous world of The Walking Dead to become a nanny in England looking after an 8 year old boy, except that boy turns out to be a life-sizes porcelain doll. The grue-crew are initially delighted as she begins to suspect there is more to the doll, to Brahms, fearing a spirit may actually reside within the creepy bastard. Things really perk up when she successfully convinces Malcolm (Rupert Evans) of her suspicions. Then...well...then...the third act arrives and the grue-crew are livid. Found out why!

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with information about The Exorcist coming to FOX as an episode television show, Universal's The Mummy gaining a star in Tom Cruise and The Joker making an impression (as does Harley Quinn) with the latest Suicide Squad trailer. Also announced this week is the forthcoming book from Gruesome Magazine written by the Grue-crew called Gruesome Magazine presents Horror Films from 1980.

Co-hosts Doc RottenSantos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr.Dave DreherThomas Mariani and Vixen, the voice of reason, are back again this week to give you the best in horror as they recap, review and obliterate all that is horror this week! Oh, and don't forget - Stump the Saint! The fifth season of American Horror Story is over, the Hotel is closed, the lights are off and the story is done. It is time to wrap up the season, taking a look back at the characters, the story lines and the horror of it all. The co-hosts dive into to what worked and what did not, the successes and the failures. In the end, everyone agrees Denis O'Hare made the season as Liz Taylor - give him an Emmy now, please.

Welcome to The American Horror Story Fan Podcast: Hotel. This the unofficial podcast about the hit FX Horror Television show American Horror Story by fans for fans as brought to you by HorrorNewsTV.com, DocRotten.com and GruesomeMagazine.com. Now in its fifth highly anticipated season, the award winning genre show is set to push even more boundaries and break even more unimaginable taboos with Hotel. The theme this season surrounds the occupants and guests of the cryptic, noir-ish Hotel Cortez. Returning to co-host the fan podcast are Doc Rotten and Thomas Mariani. They are being joined by fellow Hannibal Fan Podcast co-hosts Dave Dreher and Christopher G. Moore for this season.

Blumhouse delivers MARTYRS, a remake of the French film of the same name from 2008 from Pascal Laugier - a film that helped usher in the "extreme" genre of European films. Kevin Goetz and Michael Goetz direct the new version from a script by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) with a watered down US slant. As The Black Saint says, the remake has no "balls." Oh, no.

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about the passing of another beloved legend, Alan Rickman. C'mon 2016, you're kicking us in the balls here. WTF? Also in the news, we discuss Rocky Horror Picture Show, Deadpool and 10 Cloverfield Lane!

"Welcome to the Bottom of the Food Chain!" - the tagline for the cult classic, so-bad-it-is-good, AIP horror film from Bert I. Gordon, Food of the Gods (1976) reveals  not only the theme of the film, but the level of quality as well. Boom goes the mic. Called "Worst Rodent Movie Of All Time" by Michael Medved, the film is a bit more fondly remembered now for how cheesy it is, for all its camp. The Black Saint and Doc Rotten tackle another groovy horror film from the 1970s.

Decades of Horror 1970s
Episode 28 – Food of the Gods (1976)

Back in 1976, Mr. B.I.G. - that's the master of shlock Bert I. Gordon (The Amazing Colossal Man, Empire of the Ants) to horror fans - adapted a "portion" of H.G. Wells The Food of the Gods and How It Came to Earth for AIP as Food of the Gods featuring Marjoe Gortner (Earthquake) in the lead and Pamela Franklin (The Legend of Hell House) in her last theatrical film. Ida Lupino, Ralph Meeker, Jon Cypher, Belinda Balaski and Tom Stovall round out the cast. The known for its giant rats also includes giant wasps, maggots, chickens and one pissed off rooster. While it is AIP's most financially successful film of the year, it is remembered for all the campy effects and rather lousy adaptation. Still it has its fans. Doc Rotten and the Black Saint spend an hour looking back at this nature-runs-amok Seventies classic. Remember, "One Taste Is All It Takes!"

Episode 12 – Be Our Guest

Doc, Thomas, Dave and Christopher are all back to recap and review the finale of Hotel, the fifth season of American Horror Story. Let's just get this out of the way, Denis O'Hare is divine! He is the heart of this season and rocks this episode as Liz Taylor. Give this man an Emmy now, please. A good portion of the finale steers the remaining casts into a good place, a happy place; but, this being American Horror Story, we all know things never end up all that well - at least in a traditional way. The Countess, James March, Devil's Night, John Lowe, Ramona Royale - and even Tristan - are all accounted for by the end. And with that, the doors of the Hotel Cortez close...for now.

The first theatrical horror film of 2016 is upon us, Jason Zada's The Forest sends Natalie Dormer to Aokigahara Forest - the "suicide forest" - at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan to look for her lost sister. The premise is promising but the film only delivers jump scare after jump scare, missing an opportunity to break the "January Release" curse. Vixen steps in to defend the film while Thomas...well...does what Thomas does best.

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about the passing of two much beloved legends, Angus Scrimm and David Bowie. In the What Have You Been Watching segment, the grue-crew reviews the bloody Alejandro González Iñárritu  film The Revenant.

Episode 11 – Battle Royale

Doc, Thomas and Christopher return with the New Year to tackle the last two episodes of American Horror Story: Hotel beginning with Battle Royale. Even with the amount of disdain for John and Alex Lowe by many of the co-hosts, they are impressed with how his story finally intertwines with that of The Countess - as is James March. Liz and Iris continue to steal the show from the rest of the cast; however, the return of Gabourey Sidibe challenges their roost at the top. The thrills include the final fate of the countess, Hypodermic Sally's twisted back story and the battle royale between a vampire, a witch and a ghost. Good times!
