Thomas reviews the third season premiere of Star Wars Rebels with the hour-long episode "Steps into Shadow." The madman musician behind House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, Halloween (2007), Halloween II (2009), and Lords of Salem (2012) returns with 31. And...wow...Thomas is pissed, while The Black Saint and Dave are rather unimpressed and Doc Rotten is...apologetic. The film follows a small band of carnies making their way across country when they are kidnapped by a band of maniacs pitting them against their will against a clan of murderous clowns. They go by the names Sick-Head, Psycho-Head, Schizo-Head, Death-Head and Sex-Head. But none of them compare to the worst of the worst, Doom-Head played with zeal and charisma by the film-stealing Richard Brake. Sheri Moon Zombie, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Kevin Jackson and Meg Foster must survive 12 hours trapped in Malcolm McDowell's murderworld known as 31.
Turning to the lighter side of the genre, Thomas takes a loving look at the Star Wars animated property Rebels, now in its third season. While The Force Awakens gets all the hype and Rogue One is stealing the spotlight, this Lucasfilm Animation series, according to young Thomas, is far closer to the spirit of Star Wars than the live action offerings Disney is producing thus far. The stories take place fourteen years after Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and five years before the opening of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

This week Chad Hunt and Joey Fittos join Doc Rotten to look at two horror TV show premiering on FOX the week of September 25. The first is the return of SCREAM QUEENS for its second season. The horror comedy is from Ryan Murphy and features Jamie Lee Curtis. The second is the series debut of THE EXORCIST adapting the popular horror film to the small screen. Chad and Joey chime in with their thoughts on the horror happenings this week.
Next up is an interview with director Todd Nunes whose film ALL THROUGH THE HOUSE lands on DVD/Blu-Ray October 11, 2016. Doc first met the director at the recent Genre Blast Film Festival where Todd presented Doc with the most interesting marketing swag. You'll have to listen to hear what that may be. Next up on Todd's plate is the remake of Don't Look in the Basement going by the often used alternate title for that film DEATH WARD 13.

The fall season is upon us and with it a treasure trove of horror content. It is amazing the amount of genre content available for horror fans on TV in 2016. Doc is joined by Gruesome Magazine writers Chad Hunt and Joey Fittos to discuss two shows that debuted on FOX this past week. Scream Queens is more of a comedy than horror but it contains ample amounts of blood and shocking content. And it also stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Keke Palmer, Abigail Breslin, Billie Lourd, Niecy Nash, Kirstie Alley, Taylor Lautner and John Stamos. And that's just the beginning. On Friday night, FOX debuted its straight up horror offering, The Exorcist. The first episode is directed by Ruport Wyatt and features Alfonso Herrera, Ben Daniels, Alan Ruck and Geena Davis. And, believe us, FOX gets its scary on. Whew...
Arriving on Blu-ray and DVD on October 11, 2016 is the holiday horror-comedy All Through the House. Doc Rotten sits down with director Todd Nunes to discuss making the film, getting into horror and his next project Death Ward 13. The film puts a humorous twist on the killer Santa sub-genre with plenty of sex, violence, blood and gore...and laughs. The cast includes Ashley Mary Nunes, Jessica Cameron, Melynda Kiring and Lito Velasco. After all that, you will want to hear about Todd's next project, the remake of Don't Look in the Basement!

Episode 90 – The Funhouse (1981)
Tobe Hooper returns to the director's chair for the latest horror classic examined by the Grue-crew for Decades of Horror 1980s. This film leads his career directly into Poltergeist where he would flirt with becoming a "Hollywood" director. The Funhouse is a low budget slasher-esque film that has a group of teens sneaking into the traveling carnival's funhouse for the night. While peaking through the floor boards, they witness the mysterious man in the Frankenstein mask strangle the frisky fortune teller to death with his bare hands. Add in some sticky fingers and a curmudgeon carney with a penchant for violence and a horror film is born. The kids try to escape the funhouse with their lives. This is a Hooper film so we know that doesn't go terribly well for these misfit kids. Eh?
Thomas, Christopher, and Doc debate back and forth on the merits of this particular Toby Hooper entry. Some like the setting, some like the make-up while others despise the kids and have a huge issue with the motivation of "The Monster" and the kids as they witness his inability to make good decisions. Let's just say he has trouble understanding the value of money. The make-up is impressively designed but does not have enough articulation to make its onscreen appearances entirely successful. Yes, Hooper shows off his talent in a number of key scenes, most notably when Lis is trapped in a ventilation shaft with the fan behind her and the monster approaching.
This week Joseph Perry chimes in from across the globe, South Korea to be exact. Mr. Perry is excited to share his thoughts with the HNR Extra listeners on a number of films he caught at the recent Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival. This week dives into another brilliant Sci-Fi/Horror film THE SIMILARS from director Isaac Ezban. Season 6 Episode 2– "Chapter Two"
This week American Horror Story gives its feverish fans glimpses of the roles fan-favorites are going to play this season with Kathy Bates, Wes Bentley and Lady Gaga appearing as a group of pagans firing up their pit of horror in the woods. But before we can ask "Is that Lady Gaga?" their gone and we're back at the mansion. We do get introduced to a lovely pair of murderous maidens in the form of sister nurses Miranda (Maya Rose Berkos) and Bridget (Kristen Rakes). Lee's daughter Flora (Saniyya Sidney) also stops by for a visit and discovers a lonely ghost named Priscilla hiding in the closet. But its the introduction of Dr. Elias Cunningham (Denis O'Hare) that has Shelby and Matt worried the most as his found footage tape reveal some of the house's most violent secrets.
The Grue-crew give their thoughts on all the major plot points, scares and surprises. They dive into some interesting news from the past week, including Ryan Murphy revealing something interesting about episode 6. And, it's time for some listener feedback, featuring a special message from past co-host Thomas Mariani.
The surprise sequel of the year, Blair Witch, landed in theaters this weekend taking the second spot at the box office. The film from Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett, originally announced as The Woods, was revealed at Comic Con this past Spring to be a direct follow up to the granddaddy of all found footage films, The Blair Witch Project. While the initial buzz was extremely positive, the reaction from most of the grue-crew is decidedly less so. One review is powerfully negative, the reviewer gives the film a whopping zero out of five. Oh, man, the heat is on.
Thomas delivers a special installment of Stump the Saint this week as the game-show-esque segment of Horror News Radio celebrates its one year anniversary in its current format. The Walking Dead is one of those shows that will go down in the history books and shines the spotlight brightly on horror on TV regardless. The show is nearly critic proof at this point. But is the spin off companion series Fear the Walking Dead worthy of the same respect. Joey Fittos from Gruesome Magazine joins Doc to dive into his love/hate relationship with the show. He shares how Nick has gone from the character he despised the most in Season 1 to the character he loves the most in Season 2. The sixth season of American Horror Story is here! Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk pulled a fast one on AHS fans by refusing to reveal the theme of this season, right up to the very premiere of Season 6 Episode 1. What we found as we tuned in 10:00 PM Wednesday, September 14, 2016 was a brand new format and a slower pace. Murphy and Falchuk introduce a couple who have moved into a potentially haunted house in North Carolina. Matt and Shelby are interviewed talking head style played by Andre Holland and Lily Rabe. Meanwhile, the reenactments feature Cuba Gooding Jr. and Sarah Paulson portraying the lead characters. Kevin Smith returns continuing his Canadian adventures with Yoga Hosers featuring Lily-Rose Depp, Harley Quinn Smith and Johnny Depp. Thomas Mariani steps in to warn each and every HNR fan to think twice before stepping into this heaping pile of manure. Yeah, that's right, he did not like it. But, just how much did he not like it. Oh, dear God. It's brutal.
While Yoga Hosers is a smaller release by comparison, Morgan landed in 2000 theaters this weekend to a paltry $2 million box office. Thud. The film tanked, hard. The Black Saint is the only crew member to suffer through the film. He is here to share his thoughts - in his usual Black Saint style.
"Some folks have a strange idea of entertainment." - For Tom McLoughlin's installment of the F13 franchise, Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI, Bob Larkin takes the role of Martin the Caretaker, replacing Crazy Ralph and providing a series of great lines such as this. The witty script sets the tone for a lively installment in the series that is far more self aware than previous F13 films. Let the fun begin! Thomas Mariani, Doc Rotten and Christopher G. Moore tackle another gruesome horror film from the 1980s. Episode 89 – Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986)
Describe him as you will, but C. J. Graham's and Dan Bradley's Jason in Part VI is part Frankenstein, part Zombie, but all slasher. In the opening scene Tommy Jarvis (Thom Matthews) returns from Part IV: Final Chapter and Part V: A New Beginning to cremate Jason's remains buried in a Crystal Lake cemetery. Instead, he and his buddy Allan Hawkes (Ron Palillo) inadvertently resurrect the killer with lightning. After ripping "Horshack's" heart out, Zombie Jason is on the move chasing Tommy back to Crystal Lake. Ah, movies, such fun. The film is a riot with great action, a murderously inventive Jason and fun characters. Who doesn't love Jennifer Cooke as Tommy's new love interest, Megan Garris. And, ironically, for the first time in the series, there are actual kids at the camp, leading to an interesting scene where Jason shambles into their bunk room.
Grue-crew member David Dreher joins the DoH gang to take a look at one of the films most near and dear to his heart. While, as the curator of Savini.com, he has a strong affection for the first Friday the 13th and Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter, he admits that he loves Jason Lives just as much. Along with Christopher, Doc and Thomas, he revisits the film going over each shocking kill and all the new mythology added to Jason's motives and stamina. Lightning, who knew? Check out the episode and relive probably the most fun entry into the Friday the 13th franchise. C'monl, it even has an Alice Cooper theme song. What's not to love.
The number one movie in theaters this weekend (August 28, 2016) is DON'T BREATHE, the horror film from director Fede Alverez (Evil Dead). The Grue-crew are on hand to discuss their reaction to the tense thriller from Ghost House Pictures featuring Stephen Lang, Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette and Daniel Zovatto. They dive into the elements that work, the surprises that shock and the zingers that make Thomas question what the hell is wrong with Doc. Ha! Fun times!
Doc steps in to announce the Horror News of the Week discussing a variety of items about the final reveal of the Rings trailer, the tease of Doug Liman direction DC's Dark Universe and the loss of the endlessly talented Gene Wilder, the man who gave us Willy Wonka and Frederick Frankenstein. Not only are the Grue-crew going to Dragon*Con this year THIS WEEKEND, Doc and Gruesome Magazine writer Paul Cardullo are heading to Wreak Havoc Film Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina this late September/early October. Another announcement for the fall is that Horror News Radio will be at Spooky Empire in Orlando, Florida, October 7 - 9, 2016. Oh, boy! Plan your trip now.

On a special side note, Don't Breathe is the second film from Fede Alverez covered on Horror News Radio by the Grue-crew. The first one was his first film Evil Dead which we covered on the very first episode of the show. It took 178 episodes to get to his second feature. The film is out now in theaters and the question is "Does it deliver?" The answer is what you are wanting to hear. Doc, Santos and Thomas dive into the film, discussing the acting chops of Stephen Lang, the directing slieght of hand of Fede Alverez and the shocking surprises hiding in the dark, frightening basement.
