Devil’s Due not only tries to bring on the apocalypse, the end of the world as we know it, but it also tries to kill off the entire found footage sub-genre. It is so god-awful, it has Thomas in fumes and Santos ranting and Doc nearly in tears, weeping for his beloved cinema-verite. Oh, the horror!

Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, two members of the group Radio Silence, bring their promising talent to the exorcism/Rosemary’s-Baby films. But instead of expanding on the promise they displayed in the final chapter of VHS, “10/31/98,” they rely too heavily on the tricks found in that short stretched out to fill the 90 minutes of Devil’s Due.

Co-hosts Doc RottenSantos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr., Dave Dreher,  and Thomas Mariani rake Devil’s Due over the coals, tearing it apart frame by frame, sequence by sequence. Thankfully, Dave Dreher is here tonight to bring the Horror News of the Week and give the grue-crew some hope for better things: HannibalRavenous and The Quiet Ones.

00:04:15 – Devil’s Due
January is often the dumping ground of weak-ass horror and genre films. Recently, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones shows some promise this year may be different (Sorry, Santos), but this week’s release,Devil’s Due makes it hard to argue against this idea. Sigh. The entire cast of HNR are unimpressed with the first full length feature from the guys known as Radio Silence. Devil’s Due is a disaster, but it provides plenty to talk about, no doubt.

00:40:17 - Horror News of the Week for 01/20/2014
Dave Dreher steps in to bring the Horror News of the Weeks starting off with fantastic casting news: Katherine Isabelle is joining the cast of the hit NBC spring TV show Hannibal. Yay! Both Fear Clinic andCooties pick up distribution deals giving horror fans two promising horror films to look forward to. The teaser for Hammer Film’s The Quiet Ones promises some spectacular ghostly goodness. Scream Factory is in the news – again! – with the announcement of the upcoming Ravenous (1999) Blu-Ray release. And more news is abound for The Conjuring spin-off featuring the Annabelle doll.
