"Your children will die...to give me back...my...life..." - the prophetic tagline gasped by Count Mitterhouse during the 13 minute pre-credits opening for the most bizarre vampire film, the most unusual Hammer Film, sets up the curse that drives Vampire Circus (1971). The Black Saint and Doc Rotten tackle another groovy horror film from the 1970s.
Decades of Horror 1970s
Episode 26 – Vampire Circus (1971)
Horror aficionado and film maker Bill Mulligan returns to co-host Decades of Horror along with The Black Saint and Doc as they dig into the vault of Hammer horror for the first time with Vampire Circus. The film is full of vampires and henchmen as the Circus of Nights invades the small Austrian village of Stetl where the curse of Count Mitterhouse has cast is black shadow onto the townsfolk - in the form of the black plague. The vampires lead by gypsy woman, a dwarf clown and Emil, Count Mitterhouse's cousin. The film is full of early 70's nudity and an unusual amount of blood and gore - even for a Hammer film - which is indicative of the changing times in cinema and horror films of the decade. In addition, there is an unexpected tie to the biggest film of the Seventies, the sci-fi classic Star Wars with Darth Vader himself, David Prowse, cast as the Strongman.

The Grue-crew bravely tackle a film straight from the New York City Horror Film Festival and currently On Demand called #HORROR from director Tara Subkoff. Featuring Chloe Savigny, Timothy Hutton and a cast of young actors playing a group of twelve year old friends, this very modern film dives into cyber bullying, absentee parents and a variety of other social commentary to tell its tale of bloody terror.
Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about who is back in The Walking Dead, who wants to remake House and who is being sought to star in The Bride of Frankenstein. In the What Have You Been Watching segment, the Grue-crew review a found-footage film about the unknown horror living in the facial network software in Nightmare Code.
Co-hosts Doc Rotten, Santos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr., Dave Dreher, Thomas Mariani and Vixen, the voice of reason, are back again this week to give you the best in horror as they recap, review and obliterate all that is horror this week! Tara Subkoff's feature horror film #Horror recently debuted at the New York City Horror Film Festival before releasing this past week on a number of Video on Demand outlets. The Black Saint and the Grue-crew take a look at the film reviewing it with strong reactions. Even the returning Vixen, the voice of reason, is hard pressed to find something...positive...to say. Oh, yeah, she likes the artwork.
Director Mark Netter continues this week's theme of modern horror with a tale that centers around an evil programmed deep within the bowels of a facial recognition software program. The crew are far more receptive to the horrors of the Nightmare Code.
Dave returns to share the Horror News of the Week. This week starts off with a spirited reaction to the latest episode of The Walking Dead, featuring the fate of Glenn and his deadly encounter with the zombie horde. Sean S. Cunningham is looking to remake the Eighties classic goofball horror House with a female lead. Universal is seeking to sign Angelina Jolie to star in the remake of the classic The Bride of Frankenstein. Tippi Hedren returns to the genre - and Bodega Bay - in the trailer for The Ghost and the Whale. And prepare for the holiday season with some kick-ass horror themed Christmas Ornaments.

Joseph Fittos rounds out the episode, diving into all the horror on television programming. There is so much incredible genre content in the recent years. Director Sam Mendes continues his exploration of the 007 cinematic universe with Spectre as James Bond is given a mission to take out the mysterious killer named Oberhauser. All the favorites are back, Moneypenny, Q and M while the criminal organization "Spectre" takes the forefront including Christoph Waltz and Dave Bautista as key - and familiar - villains. The film has incredible action sequences, Bond girls and plenty of martinis, shaken not stirred.
This is a special episode of Horror News Radio where we take a slight breather from full-on terror films to take a peek at the 007 films with the release of Daniel Craig's latest turn as James Bond in Spectre. It is a shorter than usual episode due to scheduling conflicts as we only review the film; however, it is the usual heated discussion that you will not want to miss. It is rare that a film properly translates so marvelously to the small screen - although, of late, the odds are improving - as Ash vs the Evil Dead manages to accomplish. Sam Raimi returns to write and direct the first episode, El Jefe. In the pilot's 30 minute premiere, Raimi re-introduces Ash Williams, once again played by Bruce Campbell, as the protector of the Book of the Dead. Campbell slides back into the Ash role with relish and charm - only 30 years later. It is amaze-balls. The Grue-crew champion the show but worry slightly if the remaining nine episodes can keep up the pace and tone.
In shocking news, the horror film Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse bombed at the box office with its Halloween release not even cracking the top 10 for the weekend. How does this happen? A lot of it has to do with the release program the distributor set up with a quick lead from theaters to VOD, leading to many theater chains not showing the film. The result is quite unfair to the film as both Doc and The Black Saint praise the film for its comedy and its charming - but insanely gory - coming of age story.
Dave shares the Horror News of the Week starts off a lively discussion about what the hell is up with the poor cinematic showing for horror films this Halloween (2015). Thomas steps in with a recap of his visit to Halloween Horror Nights. The news begins with the Halloween costume make-up master Rick Baker created for his daughter. The Preacher trailer premiered on the fourth episode of The Walking Dead. Mick Garris finally reveals the five directors signed on for his upcoming horror anthology, Nightmare Cinema.
