The Grue-crew are united in their love and appreciation for Jeremy Saulnier's intense thriller GREEN ROOM. The must-see film grabs you by the boo-boo and never lets go as Anton Yelchin, Alia Shawkat and Imogen Poots struggle to survive the violent oppression of Patrick Stewart and his neo-Nazi cohorts. This film is brutal.

Thomas drives the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment sharing information about the trailer for Stephen King's Cell, the remake of Puppet Master and the exit of Seth Grahame-Green from The Flash movie. Doc provides his impressions on the first episode of the third season of Penny Dreadful and tears up remembering the host of B-Movie Cast, Vince Rotolo, who recently passed away.

Co-hosts Doc RottenSantos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr.Dave DreherThomas Mariani and Vixen, the voice of reason, are back again this week to give you the best in horror as they recap, review and obliterate all that is horror this week! Oh, and don't forget - Stump the Saint! The Grue-crew wildly disagree about the Asylum film ZOOMBIES but have the best time discussing the shlock-fest on this episode of HNR. The Black Saint is all about it, calling it one of his favorite for 2016 while Vixen, of all people, steals the night with the best quote ever: "So much awful packed Into 1 movie." The film is bonkers with zombie gorillas, koalas and giraffes - yes, zombie giraffes! When a flesh eating monkey throws bloody eyeballs at the camera like it's flinging monkey-poo, you know you have a winner.

Dave drives the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment sharing information about the Twin Peaks cast, the Friday the 13th game and the j-horror trailer for Sadako vs Kayako. In addition, the Grue-Crew announce that The Black Saint will join Doc Rotten and Bill Mulligan at the first HNR convention appearance for 2016: DragonCon (September 2 - 5, Atlanta, GA)! Oh, yeah, Doc and Thomas discuss...Game of Thrones.

For this special edition of Horror News Radio, foreign correspondent Joseph Perry (South Korea) joins Doc Rotten to discuss SQFFT, a horror film festival Joseph recently attended in Nagoya, Japan. The festival is unique in a variety of ways from the films it presents to the film makers behind them to the venue itself. Joseph dives into 10 short horror films that caught his attention. They range from a psycho-killer piece set in the Seventies to a Gothic period piece from Australia to science fiction - horror blend from Canada. And so much more. He also shares some fun stories about the venue that could only happen at SQFFT.

Scream Queen Filmfest Tokyo (SQFFT) is "a film festival dedicated to showcase and promote female filmmakers in the horror genre." Launched in 2013 and held annually in Tokyo with tour screenings around Japan throughout the year, including Osaka and the Nagoya tour stops. Joseph attended the one in Nagoya. The call for submissions is now open for 4th annual edition, running October 22-28, 2016 at Uplink Factory theater in Tokyo. Check out the website at http://www.sqfft.jp/, their Facebook account at http://www.facebook.com/ScreamQueenFilmfestTokyo, and their Twitter @SQFFT.

Hardcore Henry is an action film told from a first person perspective: You remember nothing. Mainly because you've just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry. Five minutes later, you are being shot at, your wife has been kidnapped, and you should probably go get her back. Who's got her? His name's Akan; he's a powerful warlord with an army of mercenaries, and a plan for world domination. You're also in an unfamiliar city of Moscow, and everyone wants you dead. Everyone except for a mysterious British fellow called Jimmy. He may be on your side, but you aren't sure. If you can survive the insanity, and solve the mystery, you might just discover your purpose and the truth behind your identity. Good luck, Henry. You're likely going to need it...

The adaptation of the Seth Grahame-Smith parody hit Pride and Prejudice and Zombies stumbles into theaters this weekend making barely a dent in the box office. While the horror-fied version of the Jane Austin classic was a hit with Vixen and Doc Rotten, it did not impress Thomas Mariani and the Black Saint much at all. With Dave stuck in the middle, the discussion gets lively examining the good, the bad and the ugly.

Dave launches the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with information about 10 Cloverfield Lane, John Carpenter and The Exorcist. Also a reminder this week about the forthcoming book from Gruesome Magazine written by the Grue-crew called Gruesome Magazine presents Horror Films from 1980.

The Grue-crew immediately skewer Doc's love for found footage as they review JeruZalem on this week's episode of HNR. The Israeli film from directors Doron Paz and Yoav Paz follows a pair of Americans visiting Jerusalem when the apocalypse poops on their parade. They race to escape the city as giants, monsters and flying zombies attack. Thomas is quick to point out that the film's main device, Google Glasses, are already passe and date the film. It may not get much better from there despite Doc optimistically describing his enjoyment of Jeruzalem as a guilty pleasure. Oh, my!

Doc and Thomas launch the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with information about Under the Shadow, Swiss Army Man, Cabin Fever and ... This week on Horror News Radio we try to follow Brahms' rules as we babysit The Boy. Lauren Cohan steps out of the dangerous world of The Walking Dead to become a nanny in England looking after an 8 year old boy, except that boy turns out to be a life-sizes porcelain doll. The grue-crew are initially delighted as she begins to suspect there is more to the doll, to Brahms, fearing a spirit may actually reside within the creepy bastard. Things really perk up when she successfully convinces Malcolm (Rupert Evans) of her suspicions. Then...well...then...the third act arrives and the grue-crew are livid. Found out why!

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with information about The Exorcist coming to FOX as an episode television show, Universal's The Mummy gaining a star in Tom Cruise and The Joker making an impression (as does Harley Quinn) with the latest Suicide Squad trailer. Also announced this week is the forthcoming book from Gruesome Magazine written by the Grue-crew called Gruesome Magazine presents Horror Films from 1980.

Blumhouse delivers MARTYRS, a remake of the French film of the same name from 2008 from Pascal Laugier - a film that helped usher in the "extreme" genre of European films. Kevin Goetz and Michael Goetz direct the new version from a script by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) with a watered down US slant. As The Black Saint says, the remake has no "balls." Oh, no.

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about the passing of another beloved legend, Alan Rickman. C'mon 2016, you're kicking us in the balls here. WTF? Also in the news, we discuss Rocky Horror Picture Show, Deadpool and 10 Cloverfield Lane!

The first theatrical horror film of 2016 is upon us, Jason Zada's The Forest sends Natalie Dormer to Aokigahara Forest - the "suicide forest" - at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan to look for her lost sister. The premise is promising but the film only delivers jump scare after jump scare, missing an opportunity to break the "January Release" curse. Vixen steps in to defend the film while Thomas...well...does what Thomas does best.

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about the passing of two much beloved legends, Angus Scrimm and David Bowie. In the What Have You Been Watching segment, the grue-crew reviews the bloody Alejandro González Iñárritu  film The Revenant.

Dec 30, 2015

This is it, the final episode of 2015 and what better topic to discuss than The Best Horror Films of 2015. Doc, Dave, The Black Saint and Thomas compile their top horror films of the past 12 months and discuss what they loved about them as each dives into their list. A number of films appear on many of the lists - The Final Girls, It Follows and Krampus - while each list has its share of unique treasures and controversial additions. The Black Saint is relieved there is no mention of Area 51.

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about the passing of Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead, the troubles of Rob Zombie getting NC-17 rating for his next flick 31 and the reveal of Benedict Cumberbatch as Marvel's Doctor Strange. In the What Have You Been Watching segment, Doc Rotten finally reviews the "controversial" film Big Game.

Award winning director, Christopher G. Moore, joins the Grue-crew to discuss the box-office record breaking film from J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Doc and Christopher share their love for the films while Dave, Thomas and the Black Saint are less impressed siting it as being too similar to A New Hope. They still call the film a hit, however, being more engaged with the new characters of Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). The practical effects get a huge thumbs up as well - with BB8 getting much love - and the CGI space battles are highlights for the crew. It should be noted that this episode is HEAVY on the spoilers, so be warned.

Before the excitement starts, Christopher shares his weekend experience with the film which includes being interviewed by a local new team and seeing the film a whopping Eleven times from Thursday through Saturday. For those who are less enthusiastic about HNR covering Non-Horror films, be sure to return next week for the Best Horror Films of 2015.

It is that time of year once again where the Grue-crew take a look back at the past twelve months, beginning with the Worst Horror Films of 2015. The Black Saint, Dave Dreher, Thomas Mariani and Doc Rotten each compile their list of the genre films that left them miffed during this past year. The Black Saint gets ample opportunity to explain he's been "Blum'd" while Dave reluctantly disses some film he was looking forward to but failed to impress. Thomas goes after some Hollywood heavy weights, low-budget offerings and an anime-turned-live-action Japanese feature while Doc -- well -- makes a few controversial choices.

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about a 4K restoration of the 1979 classic Phantasm, the first look at the new ToHo Godzilla: Resurgence and the first trailer from Summer 2016's sci-fi feature Independence Day: Resurgence. In the What Have You Been Watching segment, the Grue-crew cover a Black Saint recommended film Dead Body.

Daniel Radcliffe is the hunchback Igor and James McAvoy is the mad scientist in Victor Frankenstein (2015) from director Paul McGuigan. Writer Max Landis takes a "bromance" approach to re-imagining the Mary Shelley classic. While Igor and Victor decide monster needs two sets of lungs and two hearts, the film makers should have kept with a singular focus - the relationship between the title character and Radcliffe's misshapen sad but optimistic Igor. The Grue-crew share their reaction to the latest theatrical horror film.

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about Kevin Bacon returning to Tremors, Leonardo DiCaprio grossing out Academy members with The Revenant and Patton Oswalt joins the MST3K reboot. In the What Have You Been Watching segment, the Grue-crew head back to Alexandria to discuss the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead season 6.

Review: Victor Frankenstein (2015)

On one hand the chemistry between James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe is extraordinary and worth watching but on the other the film itself, Victor Frankenstein (2015), is as misguided as the monster Frankenstein sets out to create. A terrific first act promises a great movie while the disastrous third act throws all the potential away. And the film pays for this at the box office with an embarrassing 12 place opening. The Grue-crew look at what works and what falls apart in the latest attempt to recapture the monster films of old.

What Have You Been Watching: The Walking Dead Season 6 Mid-Season Finale

Season six of The Walking Dead has had the Grue-crew discussing it on the podcast far more often than previous seasons for certain. However, the mid-season finale - a typical notable high-point for the show - leaves the Grue-crew a little flat and unimpressed. (Editor's note: Gruesome Magazine writer Joey Fittos has a different, far more positive, opinion of this episode of TWD - check it out)

Horror News of the Week for 11/30/2015

Thomas steps in for Dave to share the Horror News of the Week. This week starts off with the release of the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War. We get our first glimpses of The Black Panther but where is Spider-Man. Kevin Bacon is teaming up with Blumhouse to produce and star in a new Tremors TV show. Joel Hodgson is resurrecting Mystery Science Theater 3000 with a successful Kickstarter campaign and a new cast. Academy Voters leave the high-profile screening of Leonardo DiCaprio's next film early grossed out by blood and gore in The Revenant.

The Grue-crew bravely tackle a film straight from the New York City Horror Film Festival and currently On Demand called #HORROR from director Tara Subkoff. Featuring Chloe Savigny, Timothy Hutton and a cast of young actors playing a group of twelve year old friends, this very modern film dives into cyber bullying, absentee parents and a variety of other social commentary to tell its tale of bloody terror.

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about who is back in The Walking Dead, who wants to remake House and who is being sought to star in The Bride of Frankenstein. In the What Have You Been Watching segment, the Grue-crew review a found-footage film about the unknown horror living in the facial network software in Nightmare Code.

Tara Subkoff's feature horror film #Horror recently debuted at the New York City Horror Film Festival before releasing this past week on a number of Video on Demand outlets. The Black Saint and the Grue-crew take a look at the film reviewing it with strong reactions. Even the returning Vixen, the voice of reason, is hard pressed to find something...positive...to say. Oh, yeah, she likes the artwork.

What Have You Been Watching: Nightmare Code (2015)

Director Mark Netter continues this week's theme of modern horror with a tale that centers around an evil programmed deep within the bowels of a facial recognition software program. The crew are far more receptive to the horrors of the Nightmare Code

Horror News of the Week for 11/23/2015

Dave returns to share the Horror News of the Week. This week starts off with a spirited reaction to the latest episode of The Walking Dead, featuring the fate of Glenn and his deadly encounter with the zombie horde. Sean S. Cunningham is looking to remake the Eighties classic goofball horror House with a female lead. Universal is seeking to sign Angelina Jolie to star in the remake of the classic The Bride of Frankenstein. Tippi Hedren returns to the genre - and Bodega Bay - in the trailer for The Ghost and the Whale. And prepare for the holiday season with some kick-ass horror themed Christmas Ornaments.
