Leigh Whannell steps into the director's chair for the latest James Wan productions, INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 3. Santos starts the reviews off with a surprising positive review of latest film starring Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Angus Sampson, Leigh Whannell, Lin Shaye, Tate Berney, Michael Reid MacKay, Steve Coulter and Hayley Kiyoko. For the "What Have You Been Watching" segment, the grue-crew review the buzz-worthy festival and current VOD hit, WE ARE STILL HERE. Review: Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015)

The Black Saint is known for being very public about his negative opinion about looking forward to seeing this film. Imagine the Grue-crew's surprise when he reveals he enjoyed the latest chapter in the Insidious franchise, INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3. The story may be about the new family (Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott) and their supernatural encounters, but the film belongs to Lin Shaye's Elise. Scary with new threats without leaving familiar haunted faces behind, the film offers scares and shocks that offer a fun Summer horror film.

What Have You Been Watching: We Are Still Here (2015)

Ted Geoghegan's first full-length horror feature, WE ARE STILL HERE, is garnering rave reviews online and in film festivals - and new fans. The gory haunted house feature continues to get high praises from the HNR Grue-crew - well, most of them anyway. Uh. Oh. The biggest shock is the amount of blood shed throughout the film. It is great to see Barbara Crampton in another horror film along with familiar faces Larry Fassenden and Monte Markham.

HNR Contest: Arc Entertainment Private Number DVD Giveaway

Horror News Radio is teaming up with Arc Entertainment to provide a DVD giveaway of their film PRIVATE NUMBER featuring Judd Nelson, Tom Sizemore, Hal Ozsan & Nicholle Tom. The winners are Bill Norris and Jeff Mohr.

Horror News of the Week for 06/08/2015

Dave shares the Horror News of the Week with news of the passing of Richard Johnson, the star of such classic horror films as The Haunting, Fulci's Zombie and Beyond the Door. The production team behind the latest efforts to film Stephen King's The Stand are looking to do an 8 episode Showtime series followed by a feature film. Scream Factory is preparing a Larry Fassenden collection featuring his films No Telling, Habit, Wendigo and The Last Winter. MTV has released a trailer for their television series of Scream revealing the new look for the Ghostface killer. Uwe Boll rattles the internet attacking horror fans for not supporting his latest crowd funding efforts. Yup.

Dwayne The Rock Johnson stars in this year's apokalyptic CGI-laden disaster film, SAN ANDREAS from director Brad Peyton and writer Carlton Cuse. Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Giamatti, Ioan Gruffudd, Hugo Johnstone-Burt and Art Parkinson support the special effects and the Rock as Super-Dad. The film is stupid in so many ways but manages to be awesome regardless of the most insane destruction and impossible feats of heroism...ever. The Black Saint proclaims The Rock is a god.

Dave dishes a new plate of HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK with the sad news about the passing of Betsy Palmer, the possible casting of Dwayne Johnson as Jack Burton and the retirement of legendary make-up artist Rick Baker. Also, Joseph Perry returns with a third report from the  Jeonju International Film Festival with a new set of horror movie reviews from abroad.

Review: San Andreas (2015)

When the earth shakes rattling San Francisco in San Andreas, they will feel it on the East Coast. Or so warns Paul Giamatti. The amount of destruction and implausible effects and disaster is exhausting eye candy. The Rock manages to squeeze out a tear or two as he fights to save his daughter, Alexandria Daddario, from a building sinking into tsunami soaked streets. The grue-crew all realize that the movie is preposterous but cannot deny the film's appeal and entertainment value. The film is fun.

The Rock remains in the news with the announcement that he is in negotiations to produce and star in the remake of Big Trouble in Little China. Blumhouse steps in to wrangle control of Eli Roth's The Green Inferno announcing the film's release...finally. Rick Baker, the man behind An American Werewolf in London and many more horror films, is planning on retiring from the business. The trailer for the independent film Volumes of Blood promises a unique anthology film.

Two genre films launch into theaters this weekend. The Grue-crew dive into the remake of Poltergeist featuring Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Saxon Sharbino, Kyle Catlett, Kennedi Clements, Jared Harris and Jane Adams from director Gil Kenan and producer Sam Raimi. Dave and Thomas crack open the secrets found in the Brad Bird film Tomorrowland featuring George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson, Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Kathryn Hahn and Keegan-Michael Key.

Review: Poltergeist (2015)

The remake that no one wanted - except maybe Doc - finally makes its way into the theaters this weekend. It's Poltergeist, baby. To everyone's surprise no one really hates the film but the film fails to make a lasting impression. The grue-crew tear apart the Sam Raimi produced 2015 version of the Spielberg/Hooper classic. Clowns, trees and angry ghosts now go face to face with Jared Harris. #ThisHouseIsClean

What Have You Been Watching: Tomorrowland (2015)

Thomas and Dave chime in with a review of Brad Bird's Tomorrowland. While the film has ample amounts of optimism and feel-good chest thumping, it wobbles to an explosive and slightly unsatisfying conclusion. Thomas shares all the dirt on the latest film from one of his favorite directors while Dave loves the opening scene regardless of the finale.

Horror News of the Week for 05/25/2015

Dave shares the Horror News of the Week with news of that director Cary Fukunaga exits the latest attempt to translate Stephen Kings's It to cinema. George Romero is poised to take his comic Empire of the Dead to TV. Michael Rooker joins the James Gunn produced and written horror film The Belko Experiment. The trailer for Cooties is finally here. Despite amounting to little more than an extended chase scene, George Miller's MAD MAX: FURY ROAD offers a complex and engaging fully realized apocalyptic world full of imagination and insanity. From Max to Furiosa to Immortan Joe to Nux, the visuals are incredible and the action is something that has never been seen before. "What A Day! What A Lovely Day!"

Review: Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

The HNR grue-crew climb aboard Furiosa's War Machine and speed headlong toward Valhalla screaming the praise of Mad Max: Fury Road. Well, most of the crew, anyways. Doc decides to start the new church of Fury Road while The Black Saint struggles with the plot and character. It's an exciting - and heated - discussion about the fourth Mad Max movie and George Miller's crowning achievement in film. Christopher gives the film 500 miles an hour out of 5. Wowzers!

Festival Report: Crimson Screen Horror Film Festival

The HNR grue-crew start off the segment congratulating guest-host Christopher G. Moore on his Best Screen play win at the Crimson Screen Horror Film Festival, as well as taking home Best Director at the Killuride Film Festival the same weekend. Christopher shares his experience at the show with highlights and praise while Doc gets downright angry at the screening of Headless. Oh, my. Disengaged also won for best effects (Mariah Johnson w/ Angela Pritchett) at Killuride.

Horror News of the Week for 05/18/2015

Henry Hobson directs Arnold Schwarzenegger and Abigail Breslin in the slow burn zombie drama MAGGIE dividing the Grue-crew between enjoying the film and being bored to tears. Justin Bensonand  and Aaron Moorhead's SPRING succeeds far better with a romantic journey into creature feature, tentacle-filled mayhem. The insanity of Summer blockbusters takes a quick break this week for some quieter horror exploration.

Review: Maggie (2015)

To the Black Saint's joy, MAGGIE finally mixes action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger with zombie cinema only to find that the film delivers a more introspective look into the transformation from human to ghoul and its effect on the family dynamic instead. His dreams of a killer Arnie vs Zombie action flick are crushed. Vixen doesn't care and loves the film anyway. Ah, the drama.

What Have You Been Watching: Spring (2015)

The Grue-crew explore one of the best and refreshing creature films of the year, SPRING. Surprisingly not everyone on the show is on board with this film from Justin Bensonand  and Aaron Moorhead featuring Lou Taylor Pucci and Nadia Hilker. It's When Harry Meet Sally blended with Lovecraft. Whatever you do, don't listen to Doc.

Horror News of the Week for 05/04/2015

Doc shares the Horror News of the Week with news of Malcolm McDowell teaming up with William Goldstein the creator/writer of the original Seventies classic, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, with  the upcoming film FOREVER PHIBES. James Caan is returning to horror with the film THE WAITING. Fox releases trailer for two new horror properties THE FRANKENSTEIN CODE and LUCIFER. MTV releases a new Stab filled trailer for their very own SCREAM tv series. Things get really exciting as Thomas recounts playing MORTAL KOMBAT with the Jason Voorhees DLC.

The cast is incredible, packed full of heroes, villains and guest stars. The action is exhausting filling nearly every frame of the latest Marvel film. Avengers: Age of Ultron is king of the box office as Iron Man, Captain America and the gang battle Ultron as played by James Spader. The film also introduces Scarlett Witch, Quicksilver and the Vision and features guest segments with War Machine, the Falcon and Nick Fury. Screenwriter Alex Garland steps behind the camera to direct Ex Machina pitting Oscar Isaac against Domhnall Gleeson with the fate of Alicia Vikander's Ava. The film challenges the nature of humanity running a stunning parallel to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The movie also successfully pits The Black Saint against Doc Rotten, Thomas Mariani and Vixen in whether the film is one of the year's best films or a dull waste of time.

Found footage gets anti-social in the new theatrical release, Unfriended. The film hits for its target audience but leaves the Grue-crew a little cold. Review: Unfriended (2015)

Director Levan Gabriadze and writer Nelson Greaves team up with Blumhouse to usher in a new age in horror where a vengeful spirit attacks her prey through Skype chat in the latest theatrical horror release Unfriended. Told entirely from the laptop screen of the lead protagonist, the film weaves its tale through video chat screens, text messages. Facebook posts and Youtube videos. The Grue-crew wrestle with the concept versus the execution in deciding if the film is successful or a flop.

Review: A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (2014)

Full of art, composition, tension and atmosphere, director Ana Lily Amirpour's vampire film A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT spins a unique tale of desperation and horror. Shot in B&W, the Persian language but US shot film weaves a haunting and captivating story that tells more with its pictures than it does with its words. Thomas and Vixen adore the film while Doc finds himself in WolfCop territory once again.

If you are a fan of Troma films and love a good werewolf pic, then WOLFCOP is the film for you. It is not, however, necessarily a film for every host on HNR. The film is high concept, low brow humor and gory special effects. What else would a fun-loving horror fan need?

Review: Muck (2015)

The much anticipated horror movie MUCK elicits an unexpected unilateral reaction to the film from the Grue-crew. The gore-filled creature feature from director Steve Wolsh stars horror legend Kane Hodder, Jaclyn Swedberg and Lachlan Buchanan. The story centers around a group of friends escaping the marshes surrounding Cap Cod only to find their night evolves into a living nightmare. You may never guess what the Muck happens on this episode...

Review: Valley of the Sasquatch (2015)

Bill Oberst Jr. stars in John Portanova's well crafted Bigfoot film VALLEY OF THE SASQUATCH. The film benefits from focusing on the characters, a dysfunctional father and son dealing with the loss of the boy's mother, relocating to a run-down family shack deep in the woods and surviving an attack from a trio of pissed-off hairy creatures hunting them down. Focusing on the family and characters, Valley of the Sasquatch delivers a strong entry into the Bigfoot sub-genre.

Review: What We Do In The Shadows (2014)

No surprise here: Dave, Thomas and Doc all sing praises for the vampire horror comedy What We Do In The Shadows. The grue-crew dive into what makes this film hit the high moments with laughs and silly fun. Thomas spotlights co-director Jemain Clement in the role of Vladislav while Doc appreciates the understated comedy of Stu (as played by Stuart Rutherford). David, of course, adores the Nosferatu look and feel of the elder vampire, Petyr. Find out why you should see this film.

Review: Kingsman The Secret Service (2015)

Colin Firth kills it as the suave but deadly Harry Hart in Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman The Secret Service as they take a satiric stab at every concept buried in the tropes of James Bond, Jason Bourne and Jack Bauer. Doc has admiration for Gazelle as played by Sofia Boutella. Thomas patiently waits for Doc to finish stammering about the effects and the comedy to discuss Samuel L. Jackson as the film's villain, the billionaire named Valentine.

On the sequel front, the producers behind the upcoming Friday the 13th sequel discuss how the script will tackle the supernatural underpinnings to Jason Voorhees. James Franco headlines Stephen King's 11/22/63. Review: The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death (2015)

What happens when there is very little "Woman in Black" in The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death movie? According to Thomas and The Black Saint, "Ample time to take a nap." For many of the grue-crew, the Hammer sequel proves to be a snooze-fest; while for a few on the show and for Mrs. Dreher (co-host Dave's better half), the film offers some entertaining Gothic horror romance. Listen and decide for yourself...does the first horror film of 2015 have anything to offer?
