Of course, the Classic Era Grue Crew knows Batman: The Movie is not a horror movie, but they just couldn’t help themselves. From the beginning of the podcast, they’ve been making connections between the film they discussed and Batman (TV-Series. 1966-1968) and even some of the Batman films. It was inevitable that they would eventually pull the Bat-trigger and feature this 1966 film. Joseph was the one who finally put it on the schedule and everyone had beaucoup Bat-fun covering this Batman: The Movie.
Chad points out Adam West wasn’t a shoo-in for the role of Batman and encourages us to check out Lyle Waggoner’s screentest on YouTube. Other works in horror by the cast and crew are identified by Joseph while Jeff focuses on other screenplays written by Lorenzo Semple Jr. Whitney notices Adam West’s version of Batman is more nurturing toward Robin than most later depictions. If you haven’t seen this campy and fun film, your Grue Crew highly recommends you watch Batman: The Movie in the near future!

NIGHTMARE CINEMA is finally arriving on this Friday, June 21, 2019, and to celebrate Gruesome Magazine has declared this week Nightmare Cinema Week. With this special episode of Horror News Radio, the Grue-Crew present a special interview with the director and creator of Nightmare Cinema, the legendary Mick Garris.
Join Christopher as he sits down with the man with the plan himself to discuss gathering the talent to craft this anthology, working with Mickey Rourke, and directing his segment titled "Dead". And, if you listen closely, he may even tease the possibility of a Nightmare Cinema 2.
The Grue-Crew welcomes Rafe Telsch to the fold to review Darren Aronofsky's latest cinematic wonder Mother! (2017). The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, and Michelle Pfieffer. Rafe confirms that if you are an Aronofsky fan, you will want to see Mother!; however, he warns the film goes a bit insane for its third act. Having just seen it prior to recording his review, Rafe suggests that his rating of the film could either climb a point or drop a point as he continues to digest the film itself. It seems Aronofsky has delivered a divisive but thought-provoking masterpiece. Check out Rafe's review below.
Award-winning director Christopher G. Moore joins the Grue-Crew this week for a look at forest demons and fast cars. First up is Patrick Rea's second feature film Arbor Demon, currently playing on Hulu. Patrick is interviewed by The Black Saint in the first issue of the Gruesome Magazine quarterly print edition. Later, the Grue-Crew take spin with Christopher G. Moore's favorite movie of the year, Baby Driver from director Edgar Wright. Perhaps it is a stretch for a horror podcast, but it is fine movie making. The Grue-Crew are at again, counting down the best horror films of the year. 2016 was a bastard of a year stealing the most talented from us way too soon and shaking up politics and popular opinion. Yet, horror films ruled supreme winning at the box office and surprising horror fans on Blu-ray and VOD. The Black Saint, Dave Dreher, Thomas Mariani and Doc Rotten gather one last time for the year to reveal their top ten films which include high profile theatrical releases, hit foreign films, and challenging low-budget independent films. The lists are full of curiosities and expected hits alike with Train to Busan and The Conjuring 2 racking up the most notices.
And still 2016 has one last terrific entry for horror fans with the December release of The Autopsy of Jane Doe from director Andre Ovredal featuring Emile Hirsch and Brian Cox in the lead roles. The film manages to do what many films cannot - provide a thrilling mystery and a rewarding twist. The direction, the acting, and the cinematography combine to bring one last atmospheric, scary horror film to fans. The only disappointing thing about the film is that is was denied a theatrical release.
Dave guides the Horror News of the Week with a trio of trailers. First up is the Alien: Covenant trailer released on Christmas day, for some reason. Next is a clip from the upcoming film Beyond Skyline, and who cares. Last up is the awkward IMAX trailer for The Mummy missing much of its audio track, and it's is so much better for it, for all the wrong reasons.

Episode 195 – The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) – The Best Horror Films of 2016

2016 ends on a great note with the film The Autopsy of Jane Doe, which ends up on many of the best of the year lists. The film is from the director of Trollhunters, Andre Ovredal, following a mortician and his son as the perform an autopsy on an unknown victim of a horrific crime scene. Emile Hirsch and Brian Cox are fantastic, and convincing, as the father and son, providing horror some of the best performances of the year. The story behind the death of "Jane Doe" is enthralling, capturing the audience's attention and never letting go. Gruesome and frightening, the Grue-Crew have a great time recapping and reviewing this late addition to the horror films of 2016.
The Grue-Crew dive into their best of lists for 2016 with fandom delight and enthusiastic glee. 2016 is a great year for horror films. The only drawback is how difficult to keep the top list to only ten films. Dave, The Black Saint, Thomas and Doc all get their opportunity to plead their cases for their top 10 list, some films repeat in nearly each list, while others a small surprises and, perhaps, questionable inclusions. So, here it is, the Best Horror Films of 2016.

THE VATICAN TAPES attempts to spin a unique yarn in the Exorcist vein and falls on its underdeveloped face. The grue-crew unanimously and unceremoniously trounce the latest theatrical horror offering.
Originally swearing he would never see another Adam Sandler film, Thomas Mariani manages to catch a screening of Sandler's PIXELS directed by Chris Columbus. Infuriated, the young co-host and film critic destroys the film while curmudgeon The Black Saint attempts to share how the film was entirely up his alley providing low-brow, silly fun.
Dave shares the Horror News of the Week with news of TEMPLE being directed by the Vicious Brothers and written by Simon Barrett. Universal proudly announces that JURASSIC WORLD 2 will be coming our way in 2018. THE VISITORS is promising to be a modern effects-driven masterpiece equivalent of John Carpenter's The Thing. We shall see. The new X-FILES TV show is stoking the fire with some new pics and info about the show. Fox is providing a special advanced screening of their new TV horror show, SCREAMS QUEENS.
