Review: Harbinger Down (2015)

HARBINGER DOWN represents a love for bringing practical effects to the big screen, a hands-on physical thing leaving CGI far behind. Effects artists Tom Woodruff Jr. and Alex Gillis, from StudioADI - Academy Award winners for Death Becomes Her and famous for their work on Starship Troopers and Alien films - craft a horror tale where an alien infects a ship trapped in icy waters. The film wears its influences out in the open from Alien to The Thing to The Blob and more. The cringe as they find the effects noteworthy but the script, direction and even the acting - aside from Lance Henriksen - lacking.

Festival Report: BiFan (2015) w/ Cub & Goodnight Mommy

International HNR Reported Joseph Perry returns with another BiFan International Film Festival update featuring reviews of two more extraordinary horror movies. This week he digs into Jonas Govaerts' film Cub - also known as Welp - where a 12-year old scout encounters a monster in the woods. He also shares his opinion of the frightening thriller from Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz, Goodnight Mommy.
