"BRAINS!" zombies, zombies, zombies!

World War Z is the topic this week as co-hosts Doc RottenDave DreherSantos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr. and Thomas Mariani deconstruct, defend and destroy the watered down zombie-action blockbuster featuring the talents of Brad Bitt. ... Dave steps in to re-animate the podcast with this week’s horror movie news. There’s one more week remaining for the Stoker BluRay contest, catch the details and enter to win.

The Official HorrorNews.Net Podcast
Episode 12 – World War Z

World War Z is based on the novel from Max Brooks. Dave and Thomas quickly point out that the movie has very little to do with the book outside the name to much their chagrin. Dave shares his distaste for the matter while Thomas decides he is decidedly in the middle. Santos rants and raves while Doc faces off defending the film "as a summer action flick." The debate gets heated. The review is spoiler heavy and touches upon just about every aspect of the movie, from the director to Brad Pitt to the missing Matthew Fox to the zombies themselves.

David drops the horror news knowledge on us this week beginning with sad news of the passing of legendary horror/sci-fi author Richard Matheson. The prolific writer is responsible for classic horror entries from some of the best Twilight Zone episode to Kolchak: The Night Stalker to The Legend of Hell House to I Am Legend and so much more. Sad, sad news. Next up is the announcement that the Italian band Goblin is touring the States this October (2013) - the band provided music for Dawn of the Dead (1978), Susperia (1977) and more. Next is news and discussion about the found-footage Bigfoot movie, Willow Creek, from the unique director Bobcat Goldthwait. Last news from Dave is announcements from Brad Fuller about the second season of Hannibal. Then Doc jumps in with the rumors of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson starring in Terminator 5 - if true, can he salvage this troubled franchise as well?

If you are a fan of Stoker (or have yet to experience what all the fuss is about), then the next podcast contest is for you where you can score the Blu-Ray coming out this June. Winning the Blu-Ray is easy. It's the end of the word and the apocalypse has never been funnier! This is the End is the topic this week as co-hosts Doc RottenDave DreherSantos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr., Thomas Mariani and Vixen all give the film high praise and adoration. Could it be the most absurd horror comedy in decades? Will Michael Cera gets his revenge? The gang cover the jokes, the scares and the actors as well, who shamelessly take jabs at their own personas. Dave steps in to bring the podcast back down to reality with this week's horror movie news. There's a new contest and some listener feedback.

Episode 11 - This is the End

With This is the End, Jay Burachel and Seth Rogen lead an all-star cast dubbed "The New Doobie Brothers" by Rolling Stone magazine: James Franco, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson and Danny McBride. The reckoning arrives leaving the cast behind to face the hell that erupts upon Earth. Cameos to beat all cameos and gags to destroy all gags, This is the End nearly gets a perfect score all around from the grue-crew.

David drops the horror news knowledge on us this week beginning with news that HorrorNews.Net will be producing their own horror film called Dead Afterlife. Check the site, indiegogo and future podcasts for more news as the project progresses. The Conjuring is showing up on TV sets across the nation as the marketing campaign begins. The first of two James Wan directed horror films this year. Wan's partner in crime, Leigh Whannell is bringing Cooties to the screens next year where Elijah Wood and his fellow teachers must face off a terrifying group of devilish students. The creators behind Black Devil Doll are campaigning to bring the concept to TV. And finally, Rob Zombie brings his horror ideas to theme parks with Great American Nightmare in LA this fall which leads into a conversation about Game of Thrones and True Blood.

The Official HorrorNews.Net Podcast
Episode 10 - The Purge

In the near future (2022), the United States has become a peace zone due to the initiation of "The Purge" where once a year, for twelve hours, all crime is legal and condoned, even murder. That is the interesting set up for The Purge starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headly. A family is put on edge when the young son allows a strange refuge in their home during the purge causing conflicts in the home between the parents and the loner and outside the home when a group of lunatic strangers show up to claim their prize. Hand over the scourge or die along side him. Vixen stands alone defender her love for this surprise box office hit where she claims the social commentary makes the flm. The rest of the crew, not so much.

Dave steps in the bring in some peace with the horror news of the week. Ghostbusters gets the Room 237 treatment with the upcoming Aussie documentary Spook Central. James Wan premiered the teaser trailer for the fall horror sequel Insidious Chapter 2. Coming to Blu-ray from Warner Brothers is John Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness. Max (Chronicle) Landis lets loose some facts about his version of Frankenstein coming fall 2014 starring Daniel Radcliffe as Igor. Bill Moseley, Kane Hodder and Roddy Piper, starring as versions of themselves, lead the cast of Smothered where the titanic trio are invited to the home of a fan only to find themselves hunted by a maniac.

During the feedback, Doc shares his review of the book A Life in Film: Peter Cushing by David Miller from Titan Publishing featuring the films and career of the famous Hammer horror icon.

Found footage meets horror anthology again with V/H/S/2 as co-hosts Doc RottenDave DreherSantos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr., Thomas Mariani and Vixen discuss the sequel coming out June 6 on VOD and in July in a theater near you from Magnet Releasing. An impressive gathering of young horror directors unite to film a series of shorts that include zombies, aliens, ghosts, demons and a satanic cult. The grue-crew examine each of the four segments and the wrap-around story. After they recover from that exhausting debate, Dave jumps in with this week's horror news.

The Official HorrorNews.Net Podcast
Episode 9 –  V/H/S/2

Based on the original anthology concept from horror fan turned producer Brad Miska, V/H/S/2 has a pair of private detectives breaking into a house looking for their client's missing son but finding a series of horrifying films on VHS tapes...and so much more. The wrap around story, Tape 49, is directed by Simon Barrett.  Adam Wingard directs and stars in the first segment, Clinical Trials Phase 1, which turns out to be Vixen's favorite. Eduardo Sanchez and Gregg Hale tackle the next segment, A Ride in the Park, where a biker with a GoPro camera encounters the living dead. Gareth Evans and Timo Tjanjanto team up to direct the third segment, Safe Haven, where a documentary team attempt to expose the secrets of a notorious cult and their charismatic leader. This ends up the favorite of the entire group. Jason Eisener heads up the last segment, Alien Abduction Slumber Party, where a sleep over ends up in dire straights and bright lights. It's a relatively spoiler free rant on each chapter.

Dave starts off this week's horror news with Horror Decor's VHS pillow - a terrific addition to any horror collector's treasures. Next up is news that Terminator 5 is set to return to James Cameron's possession and that he might step up to direct the next sequel. Another high profile director is in the next news item: the makers of The Walking Dead have admitted to approaching George Romero to direct an episode of the hit AMC series only to have him decline. Adrian Garcia Bogliano's anticipated but oddly cast upcoming horror flick Late Phases is up next. What does the film have in common with Gilligan's Island? Listen to find out! Hannibal gets the green light for season two for the last bit of news this week to Doc's delight.
