"He gave his critics a bloody and violent taste of their own medicine!" - the tagline for Theatre of Blood promises murder and mayhem the only way horror icon Vincent Price knows how with wit and horror. The legendary actor stars as Edward Kendal Sheridan Lionheart, a Shakespearean actor shamed to the point of suicide by a London circle of critics. Little did they know, he would return to exact his revenge. The Black Saint and Doc Rotten tackle another groovy horror film from the 1970s.

Episode 32 – Theatre of Blood (1973)
Much like the Dr. Phibes movies from the previous two years, Theatre of Blood from 1972 is a violent and bloody revenge caper with a dark sense of humor also starring Vincent Price. Lionhart is set on getting his revenge and he has his targets set on the nine critics that defamed him. Price has a blast in the Douglas Hickox directed feature where he dons a variety of costumes and characters while waxing poetic with famous Shakespearean dialog. While he's at it, Price also hatches elaborate ways to dispatch his victims based on the deaths in those famous plays. Lots to discuss as Doc and The Black Saint dive one of the Black Saint's favorite Price performances.

The Grue-crew weigh in on this character driven thriller that turns the "babysitter in peril" sub-genre on its ear as Sarah Bolger enters a family's home with a twisted agenda.

Seemingly out of nowhere Bad Robot and Paramount Pictures released 10 Cloverfield Lane, a tangentially related film to Cloverfield (2008) from J.J. Abrams and director Dan Trachtenberg. The sci-fi / thriller hybrid features a tour-de-force performance from its cast, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr., and a tense Hitchcockian approach to the conflicts between the main characters locked in a bunker as the world above experiences an unknown calamity. The Grue-crew dissect and discuss the plot, the acting, the directing and...the surprises.
Dave is back with the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment sharing information about Spider-Man's debut in the latest Captain America: Civil War trailer, the zombies of The Walking Dead setting up residence in Universal Studio's California theme park and Robert Kirkman's latest foray into episodic television series with Outcast. In addition, the Grue-Crew announce a new giveaway teaming up with Anchor Bay Entertainment with Fear the Walking Dead The Complete First Season Special Edition.

"18 Feet of Gut-Crunching, Man-Eating Terror!" - the tagline for Grizzly, along with that killer Neal Adams poster, promises the ultimate Jaws ripoff of all time. The film is helmed by a favorite 70s director William Girdler and features Christopher George, Andrew Prine, Richard Jaekel and an 18 foot grizzly bear (well, close...). The Black Saint and Doc Rotten tackle another groovy horror film from the 1970s.

Episode 31 – Grizzly (1976)
For episode 31 of Decades of Horror, Doc Rotten and the Black Saint dive into the campy, gruesome fun of Grizzly and all its gory, silly goodness. The film holds the record of being the most successful independent motion picture of 1976, a distinction it held until Halloween surfaced two years later. Along with other goofy factoids and fond memories, we learn the film holds a special place in the Black Saint's heart as he shares watching the film with mother when the film debuted on TV a year or so later. Doc, of course, fixates on the many similarities between Grizzly and Jaws from the three main characters, the creature on the prowl story-line and the inclusion of actress Susan Backlinie. But, in the end, it really is all about that poster art. C'mon, seriously.

On this week's episode, the Grue-crew follow Sarah Wayne Callies to India for her film THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR from director Johannes Roberts. The film introduces a new creature called Myrtu played by Javier Botet and features Jeremy Sisto, Sofia Rosinsky and Suchitra Pillai in supporting roles. The reviews are across the board but not a contentious as the horrific box office receipts as the film places 16 on its opening weekend with a 1.2 million take. Oh, my.
In Dave's absence, Doc and Thomas tag team the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with information about Ghostbusters trailer, The Exorcist TV casting and the Boo! A Madea Halloween teaser. In addition, the Grue-Crew announce the winners of both the Stump the Saint prize and the Grue-believer prize. It's a great time to be an HNR listener!

It is that time of year again, the beginning of the Film Festival season. The first up for Gruesome Magazine, Horror News Radio and the Monster Movie Podcast is the NEVERMORE FILM FESTIVAL in Durham, North Carolina held in February of 2016. We covered the festival last year with Paul Cardullo joining Doc Rotten to discuss the top films from the festival. Paul returns this year to once again look at the selection of film presenting during the festival's 17th year.
The festival mixes things up a bit this year by presenting far more animated and science fiction films during the weekend events, especially for a horror film festival. For the most part, this works in its favor. Except, the better horror films are hard to find with the animated features eclipsing the other genre related films on the schedule. The festival also presents a number of short horror film blocks with the kick-ass horror short KNOB GOBLINS from occasional HNR guest-host Christopher G. Moore being a highlight of the weekend.
The festival comes highly recommended from both Doc Rotten and Paul Cardullo. The Nevermore Film Festival is presented each February over the second weekend of the month. The festival runs from Friday through Sunday with multiple screens showing the selected films. The event is located at the Carolina Theater in Durham, North Carolina. We hope to see you there next year!

The Grue-Crew are joined by director Andy Mitton who, along with co-director Jesse Holland, directed the supernatural thriller WE GO ON. The film is their followup to their hit film YELLOWBRICKROAD and features a tale of Miles Grissom searching for the answer to the burning question: Is there life after death? Andy shares how the film grew from page to screen, the joys of working with talent such as Annette O'Toole and John Glover and the challenges of working with friends Clark Freeman and family Laura Heisler.
After the interview, the Grue-Crew dive into the latest horror anthology film to hit the big screen (in limited theaters) SOUTHBOUND, from the teams behind the V/H/S series. The movie features five short tales of interconnected Twilight Zone inspired chills and thrills with titles such as The Way Out, Siren, The Accident, Jailbreak and The Way In.
