The HNR Grue-crew try to replicate the greatness of the under-the-knee clap featured in Oscar Isaac's dance scene from this week's featured review EX MACHINA. Alex Garland's sci-fi thriller is stirring up tons of positive reviews from critics nationwide but finds the hosts of Horror News Radio surprisingly divided. Doc tries to convince the crew that the film is nothing more than a retelling of Frankenstein.

Dave dishes a new plate of HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK with information about the Joker in Suicide Squad, Adam Wingard helming Death Note and Evan Peter's role in American Horror Story: Hotel. Also, Doc announces a new contest from the cool cats at Ghoulish Productions featuring a kick-ass Vampire mask giveaway. And STUMP THE SAINT makes a triumphant return.

Co-hosts Doc RottenSantos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr.Dave DreherThomas Mariani and Vixen, the voice of reason, are back again this week to give you the best in horror as they recap, review and obliterate all that is horror this week! Also, the fun continues with the HNR REACHT Horror Poll!

Review: Ex Machina (2015)

Screenwriter Alex Garland steps behind the camera to direct Ex Machina pitting Oscar Isaac against Domhnall Gleeson with the fate of Alicia Vikander's Ava. The film challenges the nature of humanity running a stunning parallel to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The movie also successfully pits The Black Saint against Doc Rotten, Thomas Mariani and Vixen in whether the film is one of the year's best films or a dull waste of time.

Nazi Zombies, Alan Ormsby makeup design, Peter Cushing and John Caradine: it is a recipe for greatness. This episode Decades of Horror dives into the bloody waters of SHOCK WAVES from director Ken Wiederhorn. The tagline says it all, "Once They Were Almost Human! Beneath the living... Beyond the dead... From the depths of Hell's Ocean! The Deep End of Horror!" The Black Saint and Doc Rotten tackle another groovy horror film from the 1970s.

Decades of Horror 1970s
Episode 16 – Shock Waves (1977)

North Carolina film maker Bill Mulligan returns DoH to discuss Shock Waves along with horror fan Paul Cardullo who along with Doc Rotten recently caught the film on the big screen at the Retrofantasma film series at the Carolina Theater in Durham, NC. Along with the aforementioned Cushing and Carradine, Shock Waves stars Brook Adams and Don Stout. The film is fondly remembered for its atmospheric imagery of water logged Nazi Zombies rising from the depths. The Black Saint, Doc, Bill and Paul spend an hour looking back at the polarizing but influential cult classic, Shock Waves.

Found footage gets anti-social in the new theatrical release, Unfriended. The film hits for its target audience but leaves the Grue-crew a little cold. The same cannot be said for Netflix's Marvel TV series Daredevil however. Marvel is no longer content with DC holding the best in TV moniker as they best everything on the small screen with their gritty superhero drama.

Review: Unfriended (2015)

Director Levan Gabriadze and writer Nelson Greaves team up with Blumhouse to usher in a new age in horror where a vengeful spirit attacks her prey through Skype chat in the latest theatrical horror release Unfriended. Told entirely from the laptop screen of the lead protagonist, the film weaves its tale through video chat screens, text messages. Facebook posts and Youtube videos. The Grue-crew wrestle with the concept versus the execution in deciding if the film is successful or a flop.

What Have You Been Watching: Daredevil (2015)

Watch out DC, Marvel is stealing your television thunder with its latest hit Daredevil available now on Netflix. The show stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Debra Ann Woll as Karen Page. But it is Vincent D'Onofrio who rises above the flames as Wilson Fisk, the villain often known as Kingpin. He kicks ass, literally.

Review: A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (2014)

Full of art, composition, tension and atmosphere, director Ana Lily Amirpour's vampire film A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT spins a unique tale of desperation and horror. Shot in B&W, the Persian language but US shot film weaves a haunting and captivating story that tells more with its pictures than it does with its words. Thomas and Vixen adore the film while Doc finds himself in WolfCop territory once again.

Review: Wolfcop (2014)

If you are a fan of Troma films and love a good werewolf pic, then WOLFCOP is the film for you. It is not, however, necessarily a film for every host on HNR. The film is high concept, low brow humor and gory special effects. What else would a fun-loving horror fan need?

James Wan delivers with his first foray into high action Hollywood blockbuster features with FURIOUS 7. The film has a tremendous cast featuring horror and John Carpenter favorite Kurt Russell in a supporting role. The first and best of all "blaxploitation" horror films, BLACULA, takes a bite out of The Black Saint and Doc Rotten on episode 14 of Decades of Horror. "Are you ILL, sir?!" belts William Marshall as Prince Mamawalde as Count Dracula crosses "Dracula's Soul Brother" in the opening of William Crain's Seventies classic. The Black Saint and Doc Rotten tackle another groovy horror film from the 1970s.

Decades of Horror 1970s
Episode 14 – Blacula (1972)

As Blacula and its sequel, Scream Blacula Scream are released on Blu-Ray by Scream Factory (March 2015), The Black Saint and Doc Rotten dive into the film discussing William Marshall, Blaxploitation horror and the Hues Corporation. More than many of the films of the decade, Blacula is steeped in the vibe of the times from the dialog to the costumes. The film owes a lot to the imposing and dynamic presence of William Marshall as Mamuwalde and Blacula. The make up effect are decent for the time and the slow motion vampire attack still leaves a lasting impression on The Black Saint.
