"Is it a phantom, a demon, or the Devil himself?" - the tagline for the cult classic, so-bad-it-is-good, Jaws-on-land Seventies horror film The Car (1977) promises something satanic behind the wheel of the custom 971 Lincoln Continental Mark III black coupe. There's nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, no way to stop... The Car. The Black Saint and Doc Rotten tackle another groovy horror film from the 1970s.

Decades of Horror 1970s
Episode 27 – The Car (1977)

Decades of Horror started 2015 with The Black Saint's favorite flick, The Manitou, we end the end taking a look at Doc's most cherish thriller Universal's and Elliot Silverstein's The Car, featuring James Brolin, Kathleen Lloyd, John Marley, R.G. Armstrong, John Rubinstein and Ronnie Cox. The film is designed as a semi-rip-off of Jaws with a killer car stalking its victims in the desert outside of Santa Ynez. This film is remembered for its George Barris' car design - the man behind the Batmobile and theMunster's Drag-u-la. Santos agrees with director Silverstein that the film just isn't scary, but Doc is adamant that the film remains a terrific, fun flick from his childhood - and the Black Saint concedes that he did have a fun time watching The Car.

This is it, the final episode of 2015 and what better topic to discuss than The Best Horror Films of 2015. Doc, Dave, The Black Saint and Thomas compile their top horror films of the past 12 months and discuss what they loved about them as each dives into their list. A number of films appear on many of the lists - The Final Girls, It Follows and Krampus - while each list has its share of unique treasures and controversial additions. The Black Saint is relieved there is no mention of Area 51.

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about the passing of Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead, the troubles of Rob Zombie getting NC-17 rating for his next flick 31 and the reveal of Benedict Cumberbatch as Marvel's Doctor Strange. In the What Have You Been Watching segment, Doc Rotten finally reviews the "controversial" film Big Game.

Co-hosts Doc RottenSantos (The Black Saint) Ellin Jr.Dave DreherThomas Mariani and Vixen, the voice of reason, are back again this week to give you the best in horror as they recap, review and obliterate all that is horror this week! Oh, and don't forget - Stump the Saint! Award winning director, Christopher G. Moore, joins the Grue-crew to discuss the box-office record breaking film from J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Doc and Christopher share their love for the films while Dave, Thomas and the Black Saint are less impressed siting it as being too similar to A New Hope. They still call the film a hit, however, being more engaged with the new characters of Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). The practical effects get a huge thumbs up as well - with BB8 getting much love - and the CGI space battles are highlights for the crew. It should be noted that this episode is HEAVY on the spoilers, so be warned.

Before the excitement starts, Christopher shares his weekend experience with the film which includes being interviewed by a local new team and seeing the film a whopping Eleven times from Thursday through Saturday. For those who are less enthusiastic about HNR covering Non-Horror films, be sure to return next week for the Best Horror Films of 2015.

Episode 10 – She Gets Revenge

Doc and Dave tackle the final episode of Hotel for 2015 - leaving three more episode in January 2016 - as Dave declares She Gets Revenge the best episode of the season. The best part of the show is Denis O'Hare and his character Liz Taylor. Her reuniting with her son, whom she hasn't seen in 30 years, is touching and emotional. The Lowe family get to tie up loose ends as they puts differences aside to clean up Alex's big mess and leave the hotel with Holden in tow. But not without being noticed as Sally promises she will kills John Lowe. The Countess continues her struggle to get her life in order as she is forced to deal with Will Drake, Natasha and Rudy. Dec 16, 2015

It is that time of year once again where the Grue-crew take a look back at the past twelve months, beginning with the Worst Horror Films of 2015. The Black Saint, Dave Dreher, Thomas Mariani and Doc Rotten each compile their list of the genre films that left them miffed during this past year. The Black Saint gets ample opportunity to explain he's been "Blum'd" while Dave reluctantly disses some film he was looking forward to but failed to impress. Thomas goes after some Hollywood heavy weights, low-budget offerings and an anime-turned-live-action Japanese feature while Doc -- well -- makes a few controversial choices.

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about a 4K restoration of the 1979 classic Phantasm, the first look at the new ToHo Godzilla: Resurgence and the first trailer from Summer 2016's sci-fi feature Independence Day: Resurgence. In the What Have You Been Watching segment, the Grue-crew cover a Black Saint recommended film Dead Body.

Episode 8 – The 10 Commandments Killer

The gang is all together once again to share their thoughts on the latest episode of American Horror Story: Hotel, but why - oh, God, why - did it have to be an episode dedicated solely to Wes Bentley's John Lowe. Do they not know how much Thomas and Christopher have been panning this role...and actor. The show reveals one of the weakest mysteries of its history as it slowly has John Lowe come to grips that he is, in fact, the very killer he is looking for. Spoilers: John Lowe is a pawn of James March, picking up the killings that madman started in the 1920's. Be forewarned, reception of this episode is particularly harsh - but well founded.

Daniel Radcliffe is the hunchback Igor and James McAvoy is the mad scientist in Victor Frankenstein (2015) from director Paul McGuigan. Writer Max Landis takes a "bromance" approach to re-imagining the Mary Shelley classic. While Igor and Victor decide monster needs two sets of lungs and two hearts, the film makers should have kept with a singular focus - the relationship between the title character and Radcliffe's misshapen sad but optimistic Igor. The Grue-crew share their reaction to the latest theatrical horror film.

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about Kevin Bacon returning to Tremors, Leonardo DiCaprio grossing out Academy members with The Revenant and Patton Oswalt joins the MST3K reboot. In the What Have You Been Watching segment, the Grue-crew head back to Alexandria to discuss the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead season 6.

Review: Victor Frankenstein (2015)

On one hand the chemistry between James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe is extraordinary and worth watching but on the other the film itself, Victor Frankenstein (2015), is as misguided as the monster Frankenstein sets out to create. A terrific first act promises a great movie while the disastrous third act throws all the potential away. And the film pays for this at the box office with an embarrassing 12 place opening. The Grue-crew look at what works and what falls apart in the latest attempt to recapture the monster films of old.

What Have You Been Watching: The Walking Dead Season 6 Mid-Season Finale

Season six of The Walking Dead has had the Grue-crew discussing it on the podcast far more often than previous seasons for certain. However, the mid-season finale - a typical notable high-point for the show - leaves the Grue-crew a little flat and unimpressed. (Editor's note: Gruesome Magazine writer Joey Fittos has a different, far more positive, opinion of this episode of TWD - check it out)

Horror News of the Week for 11/30/2015

Thomas steps in for Dave to share the Horror News of the Week. This week starts off with the release of the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War. We get our first glimpses of The Black Panther but where is Spider-Man. Kevin Bacon is teaming up with Blumhouse to produce and star in a new Tremors TV show. Joel Hodgson is resurrecting Mystery Science Theater 3000 with a successful Kickstarter campaign and a new cast. Academy Voters leave the high-profile screening of Leonardo DiCaprio's next film early grossed out by blood and gore in The Revenant.

"Your children will die...to give me back...my...life..." - the prophetic tagline gasped by Count Mitterhouse during the 13 minute pre-credits opening for the most bizarre vampire film, the most unusual Hammer Film, sets up the curse that drives Vampire Circus (1971). The Black Saint and Doc Rotten tackle another groovy horror film from the 1970s.

Decades of Horror 1970s
Episode 26 – Vampire Circus (1971)

Horror aficionado and film maker Bill Mulligan returns to co-host Decades of Horror along with The Black Saint and Doc as they dig into the vault of Hammer horror for the first time with Vampire Circus. The film is full of vampires and henchmen as the Circus of Nights invades the small Austrian village of Stetl where the curse of Count Mitterhouse has cast is black shadow onto the townsfolk - in the form of the black plague. The vampires lead by gypsy woman, a dwarf clown and Emil, Count Mitterhouse's cousin. The film is full of early 70's nudity and an unusual amount of blood and gore - even for a Hammer film - which is indicative of the changing times in cinema and horror films of the decade. In addition, there is an unexpected tie to the biggest film of the Seventies, the sci-fi classic Star Wars with Darth Vader himself, David Prowse, cast as the Strongman.

The Grue-crew bravely tackle a film straight from the New York City Horror Film Festival and currently On Demand called #HORROR from director Tara Subkoff. Featuring Chloe Savigny, Timothy Hutton and a cast of young actors playing a group of twelve year old friends, this very modern film dives into cyber bullying, absentee parents and a variety of other social commentary to tell its tale of bloody terror.

Dave begins the HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK segment with news about who is back in The Walking Dead, who wants to remake House and who is being sought to star in The Bride of Frankenstein. In the What Have You Been Watching segment, the Grue-crew review a found-footage film about the unknown horror living in the facial network software in Nightmare Code.

Review: #Horror (2015)

Tara Subkoff's feature horror film #Horror recently debuted at the New York City Horror Film Festival before releasing this past week on a number of Video on Demand outlets. The Black Saint and the Grue-crew take a look at the film reviewing it with strong reactions. Even the returning Vixen, the voice of reason, is hard pressed to find something...positive...to say. Oh, yeah, she likes the artwork.

What Have You Been Watching: Nightmare Code (2015)

Director Mark Netter continues this week's theme of modern horror with a tale that centers around an evil programmed deep within the bowels of a facial recognition software program. The crew are far more receptive to the horrors of the Nightmare Code

Horror News of the Week for 11/23/2015

Dave returns to share the Horror News of the Week. This week starts off with a spirited reaction to the latest episode of The Walking Dead, featuring the fate of Glenn and his deadly encounter with the zombie horde. Sean S. Cunningham is looking to remake the Eighties classic goofball horror House with a female lead. Universal is seeking to sign Angelina Jolie to star in the remake of the classic The Bride of Frankenstein. Tippi Hedren returns to the genre - and Bodega Bay - in the trailer for The Ghost and the Whale. And prepare for the holiday season with some kick-ass horror themed Christmas Ornaments.

Doc Rotten is joined by Grue-Crew writers Joseph Perry and Joseph Fittos to discuss the latest updates, reviews and TV news from Gruesome Magazine in this special edition of Horror News Radio.

November is all about 8 Films to Die For. Doc and crew go over a few of the reviews of the films themselves (Unnatural, Windwalkers) while discussing the marketing and distributing concept of the "8 Films" themselves. A few other films get thrown in for good measure: Howl and Wrecker.

Joseph Perry explains Gruesome Magazine's SUPER SCARY SHORTS SATURDAY where the site reviews two new short horror films each weekend. Doc welcomes two new writers into the fold, Jeff Mohr and Franki "Boom Boom" Stein.

Joseph Fittos rounds out the episode, diving into all the horror on television programming. There is so much incredible genre content in the recent years. Three shows get the spotlight: Fear the Walking Dead, Scream Queens and The Walking Dead. Oh, and the Grue-Crew throw in some Ash vs the Evil Dead for good measure.

If they do happen to venture out from the confines of their wooded canopies, beware! They mean you all kinds of harm. The Grue-crew recap and review this intriguing and unique horror feature.

Director Sam Mendes continues his exploration of the 007 cinematic universe with Spectre as James Bond is given a mission to take out the mysterious killer named Oberhauser. All the favorites are back, Moneypenny, Q and M while the criminal organization "Spectre" takes the forefront including Christoph Waltz and Dave Bautista as key - and familiar - villains. The film has incredible action sequences, Bond girls and plenty of martinis, shaken not stirred.

This is a special episode of Horror News Radio where we take a slight breather from full-on terror films to take a peek at the 007 films with the release of Daniel Craig's latest turn as James Bond in Spectre. Review: Ash vs the Evil Dead - Episode 1 "El Jefe" (2015)

It is rare that a film properly translates so marvelously to the small screen - although, of late, the odds are improving - as Ash vs the Evil Dead manages to accomplish. Sam Raimi returns to write and direct the first episode, El Jefe. In the pilot's 30 minute premiere, Raimi re-introduces Ash Williams, once again played by Bruce Campbell, as the protector of the Book of the Dead. Campbell slides back into the Ash role with relish and charm - only 30 years later. It is amaze-balls. The Grue-crew champion the show but worry slightly if the remaining nine episodes can keep up the pace and tone.

What Have You Been Watching: Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015)

In shocking news, the horror film Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse bombed at the box office with its Halloween release not even cracking the top 10 for the weekend. How does this happen? A lot of it has to do with the release program the distributor set up with a quick lead from theaters to VOD, leading to many theater chains not showing the film. The result is quite unfair to the film as both Doc and The Black Saint praise the film for its comedy and its charming - but insanely gory - coming of age story.

The found-footage October favorite Paranormal Activity returns to theaters this past weekend with Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, adding 3D to the mix to liven up the supernatural offerings. Review: Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015)

Adding 3D to the jump-scare-filled Paranormal Activity franchise does not offer enough oomph to elevate the film beyond mediocre. Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension is a disaster, proving the age-old Jaws-proven concept of "don't show your monster." The Ghost Dimension is stuck in the rinse cycle going over the same set up and payoffs seen in the previous films without adding enough "new" to make it worthwhile. Yes, Doc is crushed. Thomas is validated. And Dave is just pissed. Vixen, however, is okay with it. D'oh.

What Have You Been Watching: The Last Witch Hunter (2015)

The Black Saint, who did not see Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, joins Doc to discuss the latest Vin Diesel vehicle, The Last Witch Hunter from director Brent Eisner. Full of captivating visuals and intriguing ideas, the film is dragged into blandness with an overly complicated plot and a smattering of needless exposition and world building. Dull and lifeless, the film fails to impress Doc and the Saint.

Guillermo del Toro returns to theaters with his Gothic romance horror ghost story masterpiece Crimson Peak. Visually the film is flawless, exquisite, lush and majestic. Review: Crimson Peak (2015)

Perhaps the most anticipated horror film of 2015, Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak is striking. The film aims for a very specific look and atmosphere achieving it with ease and confidence. The film struggles at the box office, sadly, because the marketing sold the movie as a full-fledged ghost movie. But, like Edith Cushing states early in the film, it's a story that has ghosts in it. The result is pure Guillermo del Toro, mixing classic structure with modern cinematography. This week the Grue-crew share their reviews of Crimson Peak.

What Have You Been Watching: Goosebumps (2015)

Jack Black leads the cast in Rob Letterman's Goosebumps that peels back the covers of the fan-favorite horror book series for young readers. All the classic monsters are here led by the notorious and chilling Slappy the Dummy. The main creatures include the Yeti, the Wolfman and a gaggle of angry yard Gnomes. The film is fast, fun and family friendly - a great introduction to young film goers to the world of horror cinema. The Grue-crew have a blast reviewing Goosebumps.

On TV this week, Carol kicks major ass on this week's episode of The Walking Dead in what Thomas calls "The best episode of the series." Could this be? George Romero is planning on releasing another addition of the classic Night of the Living Dead except this one has recently re-discover LOST FOOTAGE. On New Discovery American, Ralph Sarchie is leading the monster-fighting charge on The Demon Files.

"There's no place else to go and pretty soon we'll all be dead, so forget it! Enjoy yourself! Let's sing and dance while we can! Come on, blow your mind!" - the out-of-this-world 70's tagline for the cult favorite Godzilla vs Hedorah still does not approach how unbelievably bizarre this entry into the Godzilla lexicon actually is. The Black Saint and Doc Rotten tackle another groovy horror film from the 1970s.

Decades of Horror 1970s
Episode 24 – Dracula vs Frankenstein (1971)

Horror aficionado and film maker Bill Mulligan return to co-host Decades of Horror to take a long, loving look at the wacky Godzilla vs the Smog Monster film from 1971. Thomas Mariani is on board to share his take of the film as well. Topics discussed tonight include but are not limited to "How does Godzilla manage to fly?", "What is a Hedorah anyway?", "Is that animation from Sesame Street?", "Are those eggs, eyes or testicles?" and "Can you sing the song 'Save the Earth' in its entirety?" Not many films earn the "got to be seen to be believed" like Godzilla vs Hedorah does. Join The Black Saint, Doc Rotten, Bill and Thomas in the grooviest Godzilla story committed to film.

For the second episode of Hotel, Chutes and Ladders, The Countess (Lady Gaga) turns a new pupil over to madness as Tristan Duffy (Finn Wittrock) willingly and completely succumbs to the dark side. But nothing is as frightening as the introduction of the evil James March (Evan Peters). All this an more...

Welcome to The American Horror Story Fan Podcast: Hotel. This the unofficial podcast about the hit FX Horror Television show American Horror Story by fans for fans as brought to you by HorrorNewsTV.com, DocRotten.com and GruesomeMagazine.com. Now in its fifth highly anticipated season, the award winning genre show is set to push even more boundaries and break even more unimaginable taboos with Hotel. The theme this season surrounds the occupants and guests of the cryptic, noir-ish Hotel Cortez. Returning to co-host the fan podcast are Doc Rotten and Thomas Mariani. They are being joined by fellow Hannibal Fan Podcast co-hosts Dave Dreher and Christopher G. Moore for this season.

The American Horror Story Fan Podcast: Hotel
Episode 2 – Chutes and Ladders

While Dave is off catching some Def Leppard, Thomas, Doc and Christopher check quietly back into the Hotel Cortez for another episode of American Horror Story's Hotel. The co-hosts sit down to watch the insanity of a fashion show gone bananas, a back story for James March that is beyond nuts and a menois et trois where the "vag action" is bloody unwelcome. Nothing is sacred, no one is safe and all sanity is checked at the door. This week on American Horror Story dives into the origins of the Hotel Cortez and the virus that plagues The Countess.

We also want to hear from you! The American Horror Story Fan Podcast is designed with the fan in mind and listener feedback is encouraged. That’s right, we want to hear from you! To help you out, we have a Speakpipe account set up for you to leave your Voice Messages. Click on this link and leave Doc, Thomas, Dave and Christopher your thoughts. What are your theories? What was the craziest moment of the show? Who’s your favorite character? Which character do you despise the most? The service is free and no number is required, all you need is a PC and mic.

Welcome to a new Horror News Radio podcast, an extension of the regular weekly HNR show. Gruesome Spotlight will touch on some of the many other films we cover over at the new home for HNR, GRUESOME MAGAZINE. Each week, the HNR team and/or members of the Gruesome Magazine Grue-Crew will join Doc to talk about the films they reviewed over the past week.

HORROR NEWS RADIO - GRUESOME SPOTLIGHT
Episode 001 - Deathgasm - Suffer the Little Children - The Inhabitants

For the first episode of Gruesome Spotlight, Doc Rotten, Dave Dreher, The Black Saint and Thomas Mariani hang out for a little extra HNR fun to discuss the Heavy Metal / Horror hybrid DEATHGASM. The New Zealand funny frightful flick from Jason Lei Howden is one of the best of 2015. Doc also discusses a few of the films reviewed over the past week, including the Stephen King short film SUFFER THE LITTLE CHILDREN from  Corey & Haley Norman and THE INHABITANTS from Michael and Shawn Rasmussen. All is going well, then Doc admits that watched and liked the goofball monster flick featuring Michael Gross and Jamie Kennedy TREMORS 5: BLOODLINES. So, close.

Let us know what you think of this new idea. We want you to share if having a short supporting secondary podcast to spotlight other horror films beyond the weekly featured review on Horror News Radio a good idea. We also want to hear what kind of films you would like to have us cover on the Gruesome Spotlight podcast. Thanks for listening!
