Review: Everly (2015)

Everly is one of the best universally reviewed films in recent episodes by the entire grue-crew. The film contains kick-ass action, wacky characters and a break-neck pace making the film an early favorite for 2015. Joe Lynch nails the film in gore, tone and humor. Salma Hayek heats up the screen, oh, my. "Bonzai, ball" - Everly. "That not a ball!" - killer, chasing dog down the hall. [[ BOOM ]] See it! You'll love it!

Once The Black Saint placed The Scarehouse on his Best Horror Films of 2014 on the Horror News Radio podcast, Doc Rotten knew this film would soon make a huge impression. Reaction was immediate, with the show's co-hosts and its listeners. Soon the entire Grue-Crew was reviewing the film for episode 93. While certainly not the only remarkable element about The Scarehouse, the film's casting remains one of its key attractions. It has an all female cast. What twists and turns went into making this decision? What challenges did it introduce? How did it effect the marketing? The Black Saint joins Doc for a special interview with the film's director, Gavin Michael Booth, to discuss his career, The Scarehouse and casting his horror film.

Welcome to another episode of The Future of Horror, an interview podcast featuring new, upcoming talent in horror, The show is brought to you by Horror News Radio, the official HorrorNews.Net podcast. Gavin Michael Booth joins Doc Rotten and the Black Saint to discuss The Scarehouse. He reveals a great deal of back-story behind the evolution of the film and its script. He shares behind the scenes insight into developing, casting and directing the film including replacing a key actress one day before shooting. He explains how his wife, Sarah Booth, helped him turn one of his favorite scripts into the treatment that would become The Scarehouse, how she would land one of the lead roles and how much of a key player she was behind the scenes during the entire shoot. He reveals how the producers supported the all female cast and the trials of getting a low budget film completed under budget. Gavin shares so much about the film episode 21 of Future of Horror is an extended episode to cover it all. Enjoy!

This film is a rare treat, a movie that treats its subject matter with imagination and respect creating a thrilling and engaging horror tale. "Evil Does Not Die...It Waits...to be Re-Born." The tag line for The Manitou (1978) promises the birth of a modern horror classic monster. The re-release of William Girdler's film reveals a number of its more prominent influences, "Possession marked The Exorcist. Demonaic Pregenacy arupted Rosemary's Baby. Warnings followed The Omen. And The Manitou has it all combined!" The Black Saint and Doc Rotten tackle another groovy horror film from the 1970s.

Review: The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death (2015)

What happens when there is very little "Woman in Black" in The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death movie? According to Thomas and The Black Saint, "Ample time to take a nap." For many of the grue-crew, the Hammer sequel proves to be a snooze-fest; while for a few on the show and for Mrs. Dreher (co-host Dave's better half), the film offers some entertaining Gothic horror romance. Listen and decide for yourself...does the first horror film of 2015 have anything to offer?

What Have You Been Watching: Pieces of Talent

Based on a recommendation of HNR listener and fan, Donnie H., Doc reviews the independent horror feature from North Carolina film maker Joe Stauffer. Sad news for Chris Carter as Amazon has cancelled "The After" even before it premieres. If you like your trailers creepy, check out Goodnight Mommy. David Cronenberg says we all suck. Do we? Really? Plan 9 is on its way with a kick-ass trailer leading the way.

Thanks to Jeff M., Warfarmer and Donnie H. for sending in their HNR feedback. You guys rock! And great appreciation to Karissa for her wonderful contribution to  HNR Patreon.

Special thanks and a big shout out goes to the band Tear Out The Heart and Victory Records for allowing HorrorNews.Net to sample music from their single Undead Anthem for the podcast’s intro and outro theme music. Check them out and tell them The Official HorrorNews.Net Podcast sent you their way!
