“You know, it used to be in the old days, we would just take someone like you in an alley and blow their brains out.” While you eat lightning and crap thunder? Join your faithful Grue Crew – Doc Rotten, Chad Hunt, Bill Mulligan, and Jeff Mohr – as they take a ride-along with David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone in Roger Corman’s Death Race 2000 (1975). In a dystopian future, a cross-country automobile race requires contestants to run down innocent pedestrians to gain points that are tallied based on each kill’s brutality.

Join the Grue-Crew as they revisit the campy sci-fi smash-em-up, Death Race 2000 (1975), from Roger Corman’s New World Pictures and director Paul Bartel. The film stars David Carradine (as Frankenstein) opposite pre-Rocky Sylvester Stallone (as Joe “Machine Gun” Viterbo) in the dystopian “future” of the year 2000, a time when Americans root for their favorite drivers as they race from New York to New Los Angeles mowing down civilians along the way for points. Machine Gun Viterbo is out for blood while Frankenstein has other plans. Let the shenanigans begin.

At the time of this writing, Death Race 2000 is available to stream from Tubi, Popcornflix, Cultpix, and PPV from Apple TV.

Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1970s is part of the Decades of Horror two-week rotation with The Classic Era and the 1980s. In two weeks, the next episode, chosen by Bill, will be Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977), showcasing Ray Harryhausen’s genius, Jane Seymour, Patrick Troughton, and . . . Patrick Wayne? That should be interesting.

In a totalitarian future society, Winston Smith, whose daily work is re-writing history, tries to rebel by falling in love.

Join the Grue-Crew for a very special episode featuring a review of the 1954 BBC TV presentation of Nineteen Eighty-Four (originally an episode of BBC Sunday-Night Theatre) starring Peter Cushing in a break-out role alongside André Morell, Yvonne Mitchell, and Donald Pleasence. The original presentation on December 12, 1954, was controversial and unrecorded. Thankfully for genre fans and Peter Cushing fans alike, BBC programmed a second live show on December 16 which was recorded and remains available today. Check out what the Grue-Crew have to say about this slice of British television history. Let’s just say they were gobsmacked.

A mother resorts to voodoo to get back at those who killed her son.

The exploration of horror films from the 1980s continues with the Canadian feature Zombie Nightmare from director Jack Bravman. The cast includes Tia Carrere, Jon Miki Thor, and Shawn Levy. Oh, yeah, and Adam West!!! Holy Day Player, Batman! In this film, the zombie is resurrected by a voodoo priestess. Do we need more voodoo zombies in our horror movies? Maybe, just maybe. These particular voodoo zombies? The jury is still out. You know you want to know what the Grue-Crew thinks. Oh, yeah… that you do!

At the time of this writing, Zombie Nightmare is available to stream on the Classic Horror Movie Channel, Tubi, Night Flight (subs), Arrow (subs), and several PPV options. The film is also available as a Blu-ray disc from Code Red.

Every two weeks, Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1980s podcast will cover another horror film from the 1980s. The next episode’s film, chosen by Jeff, will be C.H.U.D. (1984). It’s sort of a PG version of Humanoids of the Deep, right? Maybe, kind of?

When the Communist regime ejects the Count from his ancestral home, he and Renfield go in search of the current incarnation of Dracula’s true love, a fashion model living in New York City. The Count finds it difficult to adjust to life in the Big Apple in the late 1970s, but true love triumphs in the end.

Join Doc, Jeff, Bill, and Chad as they go disco dancing with George Hamilton’s Count Dracula as they review Love at First Bite (1979). For a time, this comedic take on Bram Stoker’s Dracula was the highest-grossing independent film of all time. But, it is actually… funny and the Grue-Crew are here to share their thoughts. If nothing else, it has a great cast. Alongside Hamilton are Susan Saint James, Richard Benjamin, Arte Johnson (doing his best Dwight Frye!), and Dick Shawn. Enjoy!

At the time of this writing, Love at First Bite is available to stream from YouTube and on a Scream Factory Blu-ray disc as a double feature with Once Bitten (1985).

Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1970s is part of the Decades of Horror two-week rotation with The Classic Era and the 1980s. In two weeks, the next episode, chosen by Jeff, will be Death Race 2000 (1975) starring David Carradine, Simone Griffeth, Sylvester Stallone, Mary Woronov, and Martin Kove. Roger Corman is the producer so you know stuff is gonna ‘splode.

A scientist is nearly assassinated. In order to save him, a submarine is shrunken to microscopic size and injected into his bloodstream with a small crew. Problems arise almost as soon as they enter it.

Raquel Welch passed away on 15 February 2023, so the Classic Era Grue Crew thought a fitting tribute would be to cover one of her first breakout roles. Released a few weeks before One Million Years B.C. (1966), Fantastic Voyage features her as the only woman in a seven-member ensemble cast populated by excellent character actors, and she proves herself up to the task. The film’s crew is also the recipient of two Academy Awards with an additional three nominations. The Grue Crew goes a tiny bit giddy over this influential classic from the 60s. Check out what they have to say.

At the time of this writing, Fantastic Voyage is available to stream from most PPV sites, and as a very economical Blu-ray treatment from 20th Century Studios.

Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror: The Classic Era records a new episode every two weeks. Up next in their very flexible schedule is one chosen by Daphne, the BBC TV Live production of Nineteen Eighty-Four (1954), starring Pete Cushing, Yvonne Mitchell, Donald Pleasence, and André Morell!

After an encounter with a neck-biter, a publishing executive thinks that he’s turning into a vampire.

Witness Nicolas Cage go full-batty with Vampire’s Kiss (1988), a full 35 years before tackling the role of Count Dracula in Renfield (2023). And don’t forget supporting roles from Jennifer Beals, Maria Conchita Alonso, and Elizabeth Ashley. The film was a critical and commercial flop when it first arrived in theaters but found a cult following after landing on home video in 1990. Now it’s time for the Grue-Crew – and you, as well – to determine if the film holds its entertainment value in the 21st century. Sit back and enjoy some cockroach snacks and prepare to scream, “I’m a vampire!”

At the time of this writing, Vampire’s Kiss is available to stream from Kanopy, Tubi, Redbox, and PlutoTV. It is also available as a Blu-ray disc from MVD Rewind Collection.

The owner of a roadside diner and his new helper kill people and feed them to pigs.

What film would you rather see? Pigs or Daddy’s Deadly Darling? Yeah, it’s a toss-up. Thankfully, they’re the same film. Woot! Daddy’s deadly darling is a bit mad, you see. She whacks anyone she dislikes and then feeds them to the pigs. Or,… are they turned into pigs? Nah, just old-fashioned, psychotic murder and body disposal here. Check out what the Grue-Crew thinks of this multi-titled, muti-released, and multi-edited 70s flick!

FEEDBACK

Chad White

  • Awesome show everyone. Thanks for compiling all these upcoming movies. There is a lot to look forward to. I love twist movies, so I'm hoping M.Night Shyamalan can bring the magic.
  • BTW…No worries Crystal; both Possession and Possessor were awesome. Thanks for the recommendation.
  • I really appreciate all the hard work you all do for the show.
